Cybook $80 [SOLD OUT]

I don't own a Booken and don't really know anything about them. I received an ad from buy.com that included a Booken Cybook for 79.99. It seemed like it may be a good deal. See link.

My Sony Pocket Reader was recently lost, so I took a chance on this and ordered. I'll miss the Collections in the Sony, but the folder browsing in the Opus looks so much easier to find my books!

Folders can be nice, it depends. I do like the way collections on the Sony and the Kindle allow you to have a book in more than one 'place' without have to have multiple copies.

I like how the video explains it uses the revolutionary e-L-n-k technology.

Yeah, ideally I'd like to drill down in several ways (author, title, tags), or search all metadata. No e-reader seems to get it perfect, so I'll take what I can get for now!

To usefully implement that you'd have to have a keyboard input, I think. So, Kindle or similar hardware- which I personally don't like. The other option would be software keyboards, which wouldn't work that well with a cursor pad like the Cybooks, touchscreen might help here.
And, realistically speaking, I don't have that many books on the device, so I don't need such refined search capabilities. Then again, other people store their whole libraries on their devices, so you never know...

I loved Collections on the Sony Readers, but I have found that the Opus' folder system, combined with calibre metadata to be equally useful. My genre series are all nicely orgnized in folders now, with next to no effort on my part.

There is a nifty post in the Bebook forum on how to set up how Calibre names and exports books on the reader, that builds the folder structure to your specifications. It will involve duplicate copies of the book if you chose more than one folder structure.

Here it is:

I wonder how much money the importers did lose. It is sold at 199.99 € in Europe, you know. I think all of this implies the end of Bookeen's presence in America.

I saw that buy.com email too, sometime about 6am that morning while waiting for the coffee to perk. After my first cup, I realized the price was $79.99 shipped (not $179 like my bleary eyes first imagined), so I pulled the trigger.

I've been playing with it the last two days.
It comes loaded with a selection of books in various languages, some free and some demos. If, for example you want to save space by ditching all the non-English titles, the easiest way is to use folders view and drill down to see they have the titles sorted by language under the Current and Classic folders.
