epub print squashed
I downloaded Calibre's update and I'm having a problem with epub output; the print is all squashed together. I remember I had this problem when I first started out with Calibre but I can't remember anymore what the fix was. Anyone? pls/thx

What do you mean by squashed together? Line spacing? Character spacing?

Yes, both. All hashed together. I'm at work now so I can't upload a picture -
If I change it to lrf it looks fine, if that helps - |

I bet there is an explicit line-height value somewhere in the epub's CSS. If you know how, "explode" the epub and remove any line in the CSS that specify a line-height.

All of the books I format to epub in Calibre look like this though.

Oh, you know I think you hit it. I went into Calibre and changed the line-height from 1.0 to 0.0 and I believe that may have fixed it.

you need to change the setting in every book conversion you did back to 1.0 (once a book is converted it remembers the last used conversion settings and uses them in preference to the defaults)

No, unfortunately the print is still squashed together.

Go to preferences, conversion options common options and click restore defaults for every section under common options.
Then reset one of the individual conversion settings to defaults and reconvert. |

No, I'm sorry Kovid, no joy.
LRF works fine for my 650, but I just got the Pocket Edge and I need epubs for that. The ones that started out as epubs are fine, but the books converted to epub from another format turn out like this. ![]() |

If you can you should start with the original source
Otherwise setting base font size to 14 and line spacing to 15.5 should fix it. o(or 16 and 17.5 etc.) If you are converting a lot of books set this in the preferences and bulk convert with use saved settings unchecked. Always works for me Helen |
