Breaking up an Epub that contains multiple books
![]() I recently downloaded a PDF file that contains 10 books in a series. It's 11MB in size. I used Calibre and converted it to Epub. I don't know if this is possible but what I would like to do is separate the books form each other. So instead of having one long file, I will have all the books separately. I haven't even tried to load it on my Kobo yet, I think a file that big might kill it ![]() Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! |

Not something you can really do within Calibre, but here are two options:
1. Do the conversion from PDF to EPUB again, but this time specify a debug folder in the conversion options. After the conversion you'll find intermediate HTML files from the PDF conversion. You can then take the HTML file and split appropriately in your favorite text editor, load the split HTML files into Calibre as the individual books, and convert those to EPUB. Requires knowledge of HTML, because you can't just cut it in the middle. 2. Try an epub editing tool like Sigil. I don't think it has direct functionality for splitting an epub into multiples, but you can manually go through and change metadata, delete files you don't need from other parts of the books, and then "Save As" your new epub. Do this for each book in the larger whole. Tedious, and you have to be careful not to accidentally save over the original EPUB, but it should be possible to do. |

Thank you! Option 2 makes more sense to me. I don't know much about HTML. Thanks again!

No need to know HTML if the big file is clean (enough). Open the original huge EPUB: Save As book1., Now delete the un-wanted "splits" that don't contain book 1 parts (depends on how the original was done, some parts may be end of the splits.) Look in "images" part of the book browser list, you can double click these and view them. delete those that don't belong with book 1. Now clean up the first and last splits that may contain parts of other books: Highlight the wrong text and delete. Save ![]() Repeat for the next book. Open the original: save as book n... The stylesheet may not be the cleanest ![]() |

It works! I've done 2 of 10 so far. It is tedious but I don't care, thanks for all the help!
