Hello from the UK

Hello from deepest Hampshire in England! I have just got hold of a Sony Reader -- imported for me by a friend who's just back from the U.S. This site persuaded me to ask her to get it for me.

I'm very impressed by the display. As a UK resident I can't download Sony ebooks, but that's OK, I like Gutenberg, though at the moment I am unsure of the best way to format RTF for the Reader.

I'd just like to say that this is a fantastic site and e-ink is an amazing technology. It may signal a real change in the way people read books.

Welcome to MobileRead, Puffball. RTF formatting is largely a matter of preference, but there seems to be a consensus that might be helpful to you as a general starting place. You can find the details in the Wiki.

I'm glad that you've found useful info 'round here. You probably already know that there are a couple of folks willing to purchase ConnStore gift certificates on the behalf of others, that is if you just really want to use the ConnStore.

Welcome Puffball.

Try using font-size=15 (non-serif is my preference) for your RTF files.

Thanks for the welcome! This seems like a very friendly place. The Wiki looks just the thing, and my lady friend (who brought back the Reader) is a US citizen, so no worries about Christmas presents from now on ...

TadW, I'll try that for sure.

I'm an author by trade and back in 2001 set up a site (now defunct) to distribute my, and other people's, ebooks, mainly in MS Reader format, so fiddling about with text files isn't new territory. If Sony haven't already come up with their official advice on the do's and don'ts of RTF conversion, it would be really helpful. Anyway, I look forward to making myself useful around here.
