Kindle 2 or DX
So I'm getting a kindle again. I thought I could just replace my kindle 2 with my iPad, but really miss the kindle screen. I ended up selling mine for 250 right before the price drop so i don't regret that.
Now I'm trying to decide between the dx and the regular. It is quite a bit more expensive, but the one thing I loved about reading on the iPad was the larger screen so I didn't have to turn the page as much. And it sounds like the new black dx has a much better screen. Anyone here have both, or have experience with both? I don't read any technical papers and very few PDFs, so they would be used strictly for book heading. What are you opinions? |

The new graphite DX does indeed have a better screen (newer technology), and there are side by side comparison photos in this thread.
But there are rumours of Kindle 3 being released, or at least announced, August-ish, and it will very likely use the new screen, too. So if you can hold off and wait to see, that might be best. |

If the larger display is a priority you will love the DXG. The only time I revert to the K2 is when I am doing extensive traveling and then I find I really miss the display of the DX. I, too, like less "page turning" and the display of the DXG, with the new Pearl e-ink technology, is stunning.

I like the carry everywhere portability of the K2. I like to read books. If I was a newspaper/magazine/technical drawing reader I get DXG . But I like to reading books paper back sci fic (terminal star trek nerd) , detective fiction , spy novels, biographies, history, etc... with little graphic content but k2 does handle B/W photos and illustrations well for my needs. And I am shock how much better I like reading with the kindles 6" e ink screen over my old Libre pro's 5" LCD screen. It really depends on what you read and how important portability is to you.

I'd take the DX
I never owned a Kindle, but I do have another 6" reader (Hanlin v3) and just got the DX (Graphite).
The DX is less portable than a 6" reader (won't fit a small bag) but I find the increased screen size (~2.5 the area of a 6") to be more than worth the portability disadvantage, and the extra price. |

Man you guys are killing me. I was hoping everyone would say to just get the regular one and save your money. Maybe I'll order both and return the one I don't prefer.

Do any of you recommending the dx use it for books only? I don't doubt it value for technical documents and such, but I don't really have a use for those.

Even for just books, I much prefer the DX to my old K2. Excessive page turns get in the way of reading. It all comes down to whether the portability factor means anything to you. It doesn't to me. My wife has both my old K2 and my old DX. She takes the K2 to work to read at lunchtime, but at home, she prefers the DX.

for regular reading fiction books, K2 definitely... portable, usable...
for pdfs or technical books with figures, DX... |

if the portability is not an issue you should go with DX (more text on one page/ less number of pages refreshes)
another reason for DX is that Kindle 3 is not released yet. The new DX has a better display as Kindle 2. |

The DX is worth the extra money, the screen is great. I find it very portable but I carry a bag large enough to hold the DX in a nice slipcase and still have room.

Well I just ended up ordering a dx and a regular. I'll decide which one I like best. Could end up keeping both if my wife likes reading on one.

Yeah for me the K2's portability rules the day (honestly I wish amazon would come out with a keyboard less verison so it be as portable as my libre pro) and I like the page turn keys on both sides like the k2 has. But if I carried a hard brief case or full size lap top roller case I'd use the DXG for everything or if my work required me to read the Wall street Journal/La times/Economist or the road the dxg good choice .

Well after using both the dx wins hands down. The dx just reads so much more like a nice hardcover book then the k2, which you either have to use very small type, or can't fit much on a page. Portability is not any kind of an issue, since when I travel it is always with a laptop bag filled with chargers and my iPad or laptop etc.
