Just saw a Nook

I finally got to a B&N store and got to fondle and play with a Nook. Maybe it's my perception since I've been reading on a Moto smart phone, but it seemed very heavy and large. It looks great, has a lot of features and it can read all my eReader.com books. I still may end up getting one, but how will I carry it to lunch?

If you think the Nook is large and "very heavy", maybe you should invest in a 2lb dumbbell first?

I have my Nook in a lovely B&N case, "the Dillane Plaid", and it feels like a trade paperback book (or a thin hardcover). It's not the least burdensome to carry around.

I may end up getting a Nook so I can read my books from ereader.com, but maybe I'll get an Android phone with a big screen.

I don't want a "lovely" case, I'm a guy. I don't want to carry a purse-I'm 72 and my age group doesn't carry purses. I have pockets to carry things, but the Nook is a little large. I guess I could use a fanny pack.

Some of you must not read as much as I. At home I read in the rest room, at lunch & supper. I read when watching TV. I read when not watching TV. If I'm not working on an RC airplane, I read.

At work (engineer) I read on a restroom break, I read at lunch unless we're in a group.

I can't stand to have the mind not working. If I don't have a new book, I read an old one over again. Call it an obsession. I want a reader with me all the time.

I did check out the Sonys. They seem limited in that I'd have to do some work to read ereader books. My other choice is a JetBook Lite, which doesn't seem up to the level of the Nook.

I'm like you. I'm reading no matter where I am. And the Nook has really made it easier. Though if you asked me if I would ever give up my real books, three months ago I would have thought you crazy.

I love my Nook and wouldn't exchange for anything that is on the market today.

One more thing, what is this DRM "crap" with everyone having a different one? Talk about killing the concept. Seems to me like we ought to have a Standard DRM (or none) and format.

Computers were like this until the IBM PC came along and published their specs. Most of you are too young to remember CP/M. Who's the biggest ebook seller. I'd have to guess Amazon. What if they published their specs and DRM and said, "Let's all get together and sell books." Except Apple, of course-they don't join anybody.

I cut my teeth on CP/M, back in 1982.

You don't understand, it is just like VHS vs Betamax. All the ebook publishers want to have a standard DRM. It's just that they all want their own DRM to be the standard, and nobody is willing to budge.

I started reading ebooks on my Palm PDAs and I know what you mean... I carry my T/X in my pocket and have the books with me at all times. One of the main reasons I got the nook was that it was compatible with the epub and pdb format I use on my Palm.

I find reading on the nook more enjoyable though and I carry it with me in my briefcase to and from work, read it on my lunch and carry it around the house with me. For those times I'm away from my nook, I read on the T/X.

If you don't have a case your e-reader will be toast the first time you drop it. By the way, I'm a guy too, 60 years old, and I've never carried a purse in my life.

I don't get it about not a purse and how to carry it. If you are into reading and going places to read. Wouldn't you be carrying like say a Book anyways? somehow, someway.

I like wearing those shorts with big cargo pockets and mine with the industriel cover just fits. And also slides in my breast pocket of my columbia jacket. But I being 55 do carry either my shoulder bag for store purchases and groceries as hate to carry bags and don't drive. Or in my Camera bag when out and about shooting with my Nikon.

You get it to lunch the same way as you would a book. The top book on the Amazon bestseller list weighs in at 2.1 lbs. and is 9.5x6.9x1.6 in. The nook weighs 12.1 ozs., and is 7.7x4.9x0.5.
