ipad books different to ipod?
I was viewing one of my ebooks on an ipod touch today and noticed that when you turn to landscape mode, the next page does not show up next to it; just a blank space.
Same book on an ipad goes into a double page mode. Is this normal or is there some setting to get it to do this. I am sending books to apple for sale but this has thrown me as I will have to renumber the pages (most are double page spreads from a picture book). Anyone able to shed any light on this? Are there different apps for each device? I know they are hard to read on an ipod touch but I am just using it to check layout and this is throwing me.... |

The iPhone version of iBooks simply displays a landscape orientation single page in landscape mode, whereas the iPad version displays two side-by-side pages. I imagine it's simply that a two page view would be unusably small on the iPhone's screen.
So yes, they are different. |

If you are using iBooks, the eBook is the same, but iBooks behaves differently on the iPod Touch then the iPad. The ipad screen is larger with higher resolution and has the space to do mutli-page viewing. On an iPod, the space just isn't there.

Cheers guys, I will have to insert an extra page into my books as they are designed for the ipad (unfortunately I don't own one though). At least I know the problem now.

What is confusing is that:
1) Some companies are releasing two apps-one for iPad, and one for iPhone. 2) Some companies are releasing one "Universal app" which is basically two apps, one for iPad and one for iPhone, but in one download. So even though programs like iBooks look like they are one (same) app for both the iPad and iPhone, they can actually be quite different, depending on the developer (beyond just using more screen real estate) You can tell a Universal app by the little plus sign near the icon in the App Store. |

All the books I uploaded were based on a double page illustration i.e. the background image spans a double page. For the ipad/phone/pod I split them into single pages. When I viewed them on an iPad they were showing the last of the double page on the left and the first of the next double on the right, So I have inserted a 'copyright/info' page at the beginning which (logically) should sort that out.
I hope that makes sense. From what I can gather, the ipad is treating the cover as a single page then pairing up the following pages (in landscape mode). All this doesn't affect viewing in single page mode and I am waiting for my ipad owning friend to check this latest version for me. Oh, and the text is embedded into the picture which is why I have had to resize all the books....which took me nearly all evening... |
