Smile Hello from Las Vegas area!

Received this wonderful gift of a Kindle Fire from my daughter Find I'm spending much less time on the computer! Great device.

However, reading things (books) will take some getting use to. I find it tiring to hold it for long periods of time & get quite frustrated having to hold it by the edges...my fingers & thumbs keep slipping onto the screen & making all kinds of things happen that weren't anticipated!! I suppose a cover would possibly help....would be nice with a keyboard also. Must look into that.

In the meantime, glad I found this group. I have much to learn & some of the topics discussed (like book formats, side-slipping (or something like that) will take some research.

I believe the general theme seems to be a lack of books available for download to read on these devices? Is that correct?

Sorry, but you are incorrect: There are hundreds of thousands of books you can buy and then download.

Welcome! I highly recommend investing in a cover...for both ergonomics and protection.

I have had no problem finding a wealth of eBooks for my Kindle. Start with your public library. Many even have classes on using your device. MobileRead has a library of eBooks, Amazon has an amazing selection for purchase, and other sites offer eBooks, some free, some paid. Enjoy exploring your new eBook world!

Thank you---

-----for the welcome.

Since my first post I have been busy installing & configuring several of the apps recommended in another forum as well as some of the recommends ebook sites.

As for a cover ---- I am on a very tight budget but found one of my Day Planner (9 x 7) zippered folios! Took out the calendar section & with the help of some industrial strength Velcro I had laying around, was able to secure it to the now vacant section of the planner . I feel so very clever & resourceful atm. It works GREAT & cost me nothing but my time.

As for books, however, that is proving to be more challenging. I have attempted to download numerous onesfrom this site bu none of the formats are able to be read / opened? What formats does. Kindle Fire read?

Use the MOBI format from the MobileRead library (and it is the primary one I use). You can also use AZW and PRC along with PDF and TXT.

Excellent job on the cover!
