302 arrived defective....grr

After impatiently waiting, my 302 finally arrived.

Alas, the top left button was defective (and yep, I checked key mapping)...

Soon on its way back to the retailer...and another one is supposedly already on its way. Fingers are crossed.

I did play with it for a bit while trying to get the key working, and then while on hold, and do like the device, the screen, etc. The case it came with is the one that depends on a sticker to hold the unit in place, which doesn't leave me trusting that it would work. Maybe my replacement will have the other case I've seen pictures of (the new one I think it is).

Ah well, thanks for letting me vent. Now back to waiting, checking UPS, etc...

Hey, it happens. They've already shipped the new one, and I just have to drop this one off at the courier...

In theory (if everything goes as they say it should)...

I'll be reimbursed for return shipping (though I received a surprise email 4 hours after shipping it, at their instruction with a shipping label), was given the RMA etc...

Instead of waiting for it to ship there, be checked, and another one to be sent out (Tiger Direct in Canada ships from the US)...I paid for another up front (they paid shipping again)....

So I should end up with a new one by early next week, and be reimbursed for the one I'm returning (including the return shipping)....so it won't cost me anything but time. Just time.

Apart from the stress I feel about the $ being in limbo until they get the returned device, I'm really only concerned about my ebookwise screen lasting out the week.

Over the past two weeks, the right half of the screen has been flashing black. At first it was only for an instant, but now it flashes and stays black for anywhere from a second to 15 seconds....it seems that changing the angle of the device causes the black rectangle to flow away (like a liquid), most of the time. The longer I use the device, the less pronounced the problem becomes (temperature related?). I did open things up to check connections etc, but everything was plugged in, no glaring craters of subatomic doom, etc. Ah well.

Having played with the defective unit for a bit, I'm feeling confident that (provided the replacement arrives working perfectly) I made the right choice device-wise for what's currently available. I'm excited to start using the various recipes in calibre, and to not have to convert every-single-@#$%@#$-file for my reader (which otherwise I loved!).

And final confirmation today that all is well with getting fully reimbursed etc. Tiger Direct.ca did a good job of helping sort out the problem in a reasonable way, despite my repeated calls

Now it should be leaving Windsor, Ontario tonight...let's hope that driver has a (safe) lead foot and breaks some land-speed records getting it across the country to Victoria, BC. I'm going to have to break down tomorrow, and buy a paperback or two, as I suspect my ebookwise won't make it until Monday or Tuesday at its increase rate of screen death.

Thanks all for talking me of that ledge

My saga has ended...it's working, running 15.2, and return 'approved' and 'accepted'....

I think I'm going to like this device. And my downstairs neighbor's 12 year old is ecstatic that she can have my old ebookwise (knowing that it might die on her tomorrow)...

all in all, a good afternoon.

Glad you got it! Now, too bad they couldn't have stopped over in the Okanagan to bring me a PB360, lol. Neat seeing someone from BC. I lived on the Island for five years before moving back home.

I used to live in Victoria for a few years. Lovely city, beautiful place, great people.

I do like the place. I spent 4 years in Vancouver before returning, and am glad I did. Victoria's the right size, has what I need 99% of the time commercially, and is filled with nice people. And there are so many quick places to go to get away camping, exploring, etc.

Victoria is pretty. I lived in Nanaimo and enjoyed going to Victoria every once in a while. My mom went to university there as well as quite a mature student.
