Do screens in DR800S break?

Hi to everybody,

I have a new DR800S. My iLiad has a broken screen, so I am still unsure...

Are there any reports of broken screens in DR800S?

Regards,
Artur

Unfortunately, artur, I can attest that yes, yes the DR800 screens DO break.

Mine broke when it was in the front pocket of a book-ladened back pack that dropped from about 4 feet onto the front pocket. I don't think anything could have saved it except maybe a wooden or steel padded box... I also don't think ANY ereader device would have survived what I did to that DR800.

I don't think the Irexes (Irexi?) are any more fragile than any of the others, except maybe since they have such a bigger screen area, there is more of a "target" for breaking than versus, say, a 5" screen...?

Just treat it nicely and it should be fine.

Any device with a glass screen is going to potentially break. You need to be careful. IMO, the best thing you can do is get a good protective cover for it (not the sleeve that it comes with). iRex sells one, but it's a little pricey. M-Edge has one that seems fairly good, but it has some issues with covering up buttons. Personally, I use the iRex one and have been very happy with it.

From what I've seen so far, the DR1000 and DR800 both seem much better than the iLiad. I think the iLiads have some structural problems that make them especially susceptible to breakage issues. The DR devices seem (so far) to be a lot better designed/constructed. There have been a couple reports of broken screens with them, but nowhere near the problem it used to be with the iLiad.

As Mickey330 says, the DRs don't seem to be any worse than other devices with similar screens.

Still, I do hope the next generation will be on a plastic substrate instead of glass .
