I wonder if the site owner was making money off the site. His past police record doesn't sound well for him.

If he was taking comic books and posting them, that's publication and that's piracy. If that's the case, they are right to hammer him.

He sounds like a real piece of work.

Actually, it's copyright violation (piracy usually being reserved for violent crimes commited on the High Seas), but I know it doesn't sound quite as sexy...

I too dislike the use of 'piracy' to describe copyright violations. But the term 'piracy' goes back a long way and publishers have been using it to describe being ripped off for a very long time, possibly longer than we've used it to describe the Jack Sparrow type activities. It doesn't sound right though.

Sorry I have to disagree again: "theft" involves the taking of a physical object in such a way that the original owner no longer has it. If you want indeed call it what it is "copyright infringement" would fit the bill nicely. Which is a civil offense, by the way, in most cases.

Call it what you want. I call it what it is. You and most everyone here knows that. If you take something that is not yours to take you are a thief.

I think if he was, the news articles would have said so, they certainly seem to have the pitchforks out for him. He seems to have thought that Marvel, DC, etc would have been interested in going into a profit share scheme with him.
