Belgariad/Malloreon Map

I'm in the middle of re-reading The Belgariad (and The Malloreon sequal) series by David Eddings. When diving into a rather large high-fantasy series, you can be fairly sure the world within it is going to be massive. I find that if I have a map for reference as I read, I can immerse myself in the world that much more by being able to visualize the distances and topology.

I found a fantastic fan-created map of the entire world on DeviantArt that I can't seem to praise enough. My awe of this map is amplified by the fact that I could find absolutely no other descent maps for this terrific series at all.

This is a (very) small version of the map just to show you the quality. Check out the artists page at DeviantArt. To appreciate the map in all its glory, however, you should contact the creator through dA and request the full-scale version. Be warned, it is a 48mb JPEG, with a res of 10958x8000.

NOTE: Is this the appropriate forum for something like this? or should I have put it in E-Book Gen. Discussion? Since this wasn't really about e-books, I wasn't sure about posting it there... thoughts?

OMG!! What a fantastic find!! I'm definitely going to ask for a personal copy to see the map in its full glory. And I'm totally in love with the Belgariad & Mallorean series. Thank you!!

The two series are definitely popular, so I was hoping there would be a few people here that would appreciate this find, glad I was right!

I just love how complete this map is. Giving you a fantastic world overview, but allowing you to zoom to specific area and have fantastic quality labels. Check out this zoom of the area abouts where the first book happens. Note that this is still 50% of actual-size:

The maps had to be edited out [a link is provided below] due to MobileRead's concern that the maps originate from a derived work and may therefore be under copyright law.

Also, even if the first point did not hold true, the maps are still too large for MobileRead.

Here is a link to the maps:

Are you referring to the 'samples' I had in my posts? or the actual maps themselves?
If you're talking about the images in this post, the first was resized to a much lower quality than the original, and the second was a tiny portion of the original clipped for review purposes. I'm no expert in copyright law, and I know fair dealing provisions are a mess, that vary by Country, but I thought both my images would have fallen under that usage.

I understand your concerns however, and without consulting a friggen lawyer, I can't be certain of my above claim :/ Just a testament to the sad state of copyright laws eh?

For future reference, how small should I scale images when attaching them to MR posts?

I was referring to the images in your post - unfortunately, they're just too large.

Images should be about 1/6 or 1/7 of the size you uploaded.

Again, however, copyright law probably intervenes for these specific maps.

You might also want to look around at some of the images already on MobileRead, just to get an idea of a "proper" size.
