Just played with a Nook...
... and I gotta say, the display pretty-well has my cherished K2 skunked. The background was two-shades lighter, the text was bolder and appeared to be more refined.
Is this just a function of firmware, or are there hardware issues that make it difficult for the K2 to give this more elegent rendering? Thx! Don |

I believe that it has a little to do with the contrast between the case and the screen. The Nook has a darker case than the super white Kindle, and I think that that difference makes the screen look lighter on the Nook.

Also, the nook has a black border around the screen, where the Kindle does not. A dark colored skin on the Kindle will even the playing field; the Nook and Kindle's e-ink screens are made from the very same company, they are the same.

I agree - I have a black gel skin on my K2 - improves the apparent contract considerably.

Hmm, could using a permanent marker to make a black border on the Kindle help? Or is it a stupid idea?

Personally I'd try some black electrical tape around the area first.

For my old eyes, the Nook fonts are an easier read.
At the same time there a few things about the Nook that frustrate the heck out of me. I won't be selling my Kindle anytime soon... |

Interesting enough, some state a darker housing would increase contrast. Others state, a dark housing would divert the eye and would not be recommended. But all parties agree about the impact of fonts. nook "out of the box" has a way darker font than Kindle2. That's why the "font hack" is so popular on Kindles. I've seen similar on Spring Design's Alex. PDFs had been rather "light". This was especially obvious with their user guide. With the firmware update, they've updated the user guide from PDF to ePUB. And suddenly it looks way darker -and way better. No change in the hardware obviously, but still an enormous improvement. |

I am about to order the Black Woodgrain for my K2. I just want to make sure a skinned K2 will fit in my M Edge Latitude case. I'm concerned about the corner straps being too tight.

There will be no difference in fit in any case. I've used skinned Kindles in M-Edge, Oberon, Noreve and Kindle cases. They are nearly-paper thin, but very strong and easy to apply. Excellent quality. I prefer the matte to glossy - there is no glare or reflection. Did you browse the hundreds of other designs? |

I ordered the "Black Woodgrain" in the matte finish. Thanks for the code.
