Hello folks, haven't seen this in the news section yet, but it looks interesting: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/27/a...books-enhance/

Integrated scanner: WIN
Integrated keyboard: FAIL Seriously, I think I use the keyboard once every couple thousand pageturns. And then, only to search for a particular title or author when I'm not finding it fast enough in the catalog view. |

Depending on the price point I may end up giving up my Kindle for this.

It's taken them this long to come up with this??? It looks like an early prototype of the kindle and seems to offer pretty much the same functionality except for the scanner - personally I'd of preferred a can opener or a pencil sharpener but I guess each is about as useful. I just can't work out why we have to wait for Q3 - I assume the same designer is currently trying to design a box to put it in.
I'll admit the 3G could be useful if it works in the UK but experience tells me it won't. |

I don't know, they've got deals with European sellers as well, so maybe they'll work out something with cell phone providers as well.

The scanner sounds gimmicky to me, but maybe others will find it useful. |

eBook readers seem to be popular in China. My local library has hundreds of Chinese language eBooks available to borrow.

Except for the ASUS 6' e-reader being an Acer 6" e-reader, interesting....
Not for me, though. It's like a Kindle on steroids. Or, rather, an Kindle with its keyboard on steroids. The more I see of "new ideas" in e-readers, the more I love my 505. |

Their ergonomics are (to be polite) questionable.
Tiny page turn buttons on the bottom sides? ![]() Kindle ergonomics are barely adequate, so why are all the asian second-tier vendors rushing to copy the same flawed design? ![]() Given how often keyboards *aren't* used, why saddle a content *consumption* device with a physical keyboard when a good onscreen keyboard (driven by a thumbstick) would serve the same function and allow for better balance and ergonomics? ![]() |
