Amazon: Introducing Kindle for Android

http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix....091&highlight=

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced that Kindle for Android, the free application that lets readers around the world enjoy Kindle books on their Android phones, is coming this summer. Kindle for Android enables customers to discover and read from over 540,000 books in the Kindle Store -- the largest selection of the most popular books that people want to read -- including New York Times Bestsellers and New Releases from $9.99.

Sweet. So there will be an app they can quickly rework for any emerging Android tablets.

It'll be nice when they release this. It'd be nicer if you could sync any book, not just ones bought from Amazon, but there's little incentive for them to do that.

Yup! I wanna be able to pick whatever device suits me and not worry about compatability or have to convert my library.

Great news! I just hope the application is as feature rich as the iPad where once can annotate, bookmark, highlight and sync.

[UPDATE] I've read the news press on amazon and it will not support note taking and highlighting. ... To bad.

I've been wondering if it is possible to do this via drop box. I know from the android/blackberry one can use dropbox. But on the Kindle side it would be a little more work.

Odd that it doesn't have that stuff as I'd have thought it would have been pretty much an identical app.

Then again--this is probably the Android app for smart phones and I don't think the iPhone Kindle app has those features either--just the iPad app which is different.

So maybe when some Android tablets rollout we'll see a different Kindle app for those that adds in that stuff.

Personally, I don't care as I just use Kindle for leisure reading and don't do any annotating etc.

I just need annotating in a separate PDF reader program and a Word document program on whatever tablet I end up with, not so much for books.

Yes you seem to be right, I double check the iPhone page, as I was sure the iPhone had these features but I guess Amazon did not add these features to their phones.

The sad thing is MobiPocket has has these features for years now. I can't understand why Amazon can't add them.

Too bad. Android is lacking an app to take notes...
Might be interesting, once someone have found a way to get the PID

Since all the alternatives to the Android phone OS are going backwards, it is good to know that there will be a decent reader for my future phone.

Watch this hands-on. It looks like a pretty nice interface and it definetly shows highlighting. I don't believe they demonstrate note-taking.
