Libre Pro at Borders starting July 2, $119.99

Saw a tweet about this from Borders. The Libre Pro will be available at Borders starting July 2 for $119.99. The ad says, "Comes with Borders desktop app." Oddly, I don't see the name Aluratek anywhere on the page:

Edited to add: I tried to look for the Borders desktop app, but couldn't find it. I guess it's not available yet.

Apparently they're going to sell up to 10 different readers in-store in what they're calling “Area-e”.

Cool...

Doesn't look like they are strongly supporting their own Kobo eReader.

I think they're looking at the Kobo as just one more reader they sell as opposed to "their reader".

Looks like some of their information about the Libre is misleading, though:

Quote:
What eBook file types does the Libre eReader accept?

The preferred format for the Libre is Adobe's ePub or PDF format.
http://www.borders.com/online/store/...re-ereader-faq

I didn't see mention of the other book formats it accepts.

They also make no mention about the separate 2GB SD card. Perhaps the "classics" are being loaded right into the Libre's memory?

They probably are referring to purchase downloads of e-books. This device only supports Adobe DRM.

But yes the device does support regular ePub, pdf, txt, rtf, html, fb2 and prc.

I am not sure about mobi.

I have a jetBook and just went to future shop to see what a pdf doc would look like on the Aluretek. Man what a difference. PDF is totally do-able on this unit. With "Text-Flow on" the text is easily readable and resizeable. The picture if any follow the text. If they don't you can just turn of "Text Flow" and it reverts to a typical pdf document which can be zoomed in and panned to observer the pictures.

Very nice indeed. Most readers just have one way of reading PDF files and that is just zooming in and panning around on the page. Very awkward.

I just checked the Borders site again, and it seems the availability is now July 5. I think it's great that the Libre Pro is side-by-side the Kobo on the Borders web page.
