Software to merge multiple audiobook mp3s?

The Simple Question

Audiobooks often come in multiple mp3s. I want to merge them into a single file in the proper order. Is there an easy, free and safe way to do that (on Windows)?

Details

I am an avid fan of audiobooks these days. I usually use Pocket Tunes to listen to NetLibrary books offered online by my library. It works great because they are a whole book in one audio file.

But there are also a lot of nice free audiobooks offered elsewhere. (Like right now you can get The Art Of War at http://www.learnoutloud.com/Free-Aud...t-of-War/21080 after setting up an account.) Those come in multiple mp3 files.

The problem is that Pocket Tunes bookmarks don't remember if a file is part of a playlist. So here's what happens... I start a playlist for the book files. Then I bookmark my place so I can listen to music for a bit. Then when I come back to the bookmark, it brings me back to my place in the ONE file. When that file is done, I have to load the playlist and find my place manually again.

I'd love a simple way to merge them together. (They always seem to at least have some kind of numbering in the filenames.) The catch and challenge is that if it's not trivial to do, I won't bother.

Thanks for any ideas.

How about Mp3Wrap?
I've never tried it myself, but it seems to do what you're looking for.

Foobar 2000

Try foobar2000

It's an extremely capable player. (maybe a bit complex)
Here's the wikipedia article.
