Broken Heart Recommendation

Hey everyone,

This might sound bizarre, but... I am looking for a book to read that will make a female (26 year old) feel better after breaking up with her boyfriend of over 4 years. It's sort of a big deal...

For some soothing, fun, get-out-of yourself reading - if she is an animal lover, suggest the "All Creatures Great & Small" - nothing to do with getting dumped, just some fun escapist reading.

Thanks. Might I add, she's not getting dumped... it's more of a situational break-up. She's in the US with a student visa that's about to expire, and because of that she has to leave... they love each other very much, though.

Seriously, tell her to grieve for the relationship and then move on. I believe there are many soul mates for each of us, and the sooner she can open her heart up to them, the sooner she can move on with her life. Meantime, live, laugh, and love her friends and family, and sometimes visit the loving memory of her lost love as she builds her future life and family.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's sad situation, Kore.

What do you think might help make her feel a little better? Something amusing, to perhaps make her smile again? Something sad that she can empathise with? Something on a subject she's specially interested in, that might divert her thoughts?

Probably something that will divert her thoughts and/or look forward to being single. Like a story where the lead is a strong female that gets into an interesting situation.

I wonder if she would enjoy Janet Evanovich's "Stephanie Plum" series. She's a bit slap-sticky...sort of like Lucille Ball meets Fran Drescher (The Nanny).

Sorry about your woes. A book that makes me happy about the world is Richard Russo's THE STRAIGHT MAN. The opening chapter will make you laugh. :-)

No, completely the opposite. The theme that I thought would be best is "A strong woman lead that gets into interesting situations". Nothing related to romance, but instead fantasy fiction.
