Why Jeff Bezos Is Fiddling While Share Prices Fall

This is an interesting article on BNET.
http://industry.bnet.com/media/10009...s-are-falling/

One of the most intriguing statements was, "Publishing could be experiencing dollar growth entirely without readership growth."

I assume the writer was referring to print publishing and comparing it to the possibility that Amazon's Kindle is adding readers to the market.

Hmmm. Income growing by a "mere" 41% hardly seems like a reason to worry about Amazon.

Amazon sold a billion dollars worth of smartphones. Amazon will do just fine.

Loved this article! Publishers really do think we are stupid and can't figure out the games that they play with pricing!

Sales didn't triple. The "growth rate" tripled. Kinda ruins the point of the article.

Amazon is going to do fine. They've branched out so that kindle books can be read on most any mobile phone and the ipad and forthcoming android slates.

The publishers put a stop to the selling for a loss -- which enabled Amazon to drop the price of the kindle. They can make money on the books instead of the kindle. This is a good thing for Amazon now that there is a flood of cheap eink readers that are only going to get cheaper -- and the B&N and Borders have joined Sony as major competitors.

Amazon is going to do just fine with ebooks -- and even more so as the iPad sells millions upon millions.

You really have to look at it in perspective though.

The AMZN stock price was hovering around $120 right before the earnings release. After the announcement it fell to around $100 in overnight trading. Over Friday it then climbed back up to close at around $118 and by next week will probably be right back where it started. This one or two day price fluctuations are pretty meaningless unless you are smart enough to time them right.

A lot of this stuff is just so stupid, stock fluctuations can also happen if a company doesn't match the analyst expectations even if a company has matched it's own stated quarterly forecast.
