its not actually sold is it? i mean its like $1400 USD plus it takes up to 10 seconds to change the page. If there is a member who reads Japanese who owns one I'd love to read a review but my guess we'll be waiting a long time.

10 seconds is a long time..
I wonder if this is due to the multistage write process? iirc it works by having three different (CMY) balls which are driven independently so it adds three sets of erase/write which adds up to 10 seconds.
probably also due to having to "zero" unwritten cells to stop them shade shifting while adjacent cells are being written.

EDIT:- i wonder why someone hasn't tried modifying a prs-505 or 300 by installing a colour bar filter harvested from a broken LCD panel?
that would get around many of the problems as the colour would appear in a single pass at the cost of resolution and contrast ratio.

EDIT 2:- my other idea was to layer a low resolution lcd panel onto a monochrome e-ink panel but optimised for reflective use. the idea here is that the light is shifted half of the way by each pass so that each "pixel" can appear in any colour but the display can be shifted into monochrome if low power use is desired.
might make these beasties cheaper as existing tech can be used.
(last time i checked the Gameboy Color and OLPC used this sort of display to great effect)

guess what my next project is...

-A
