Looking for a reader for 2

Hello all,
my little sister and her adoptive mother are now interested in getting ereaders, and they've looked to me to decide which one would be best for them. So, I'm looking to the great minds of mobile read.

They are 15 and 60 respectively, the older one is more tech savy than the younger one, but its still only at a moderate level (she won't be into DRM stripping or anything) but they have no issues getting the books off the computer and onto their readers. They would like to share books and read the same books at the same time, but only have to buy one copy. the 15yr old wants to be able to get her reader into her purse, but the older one doesn't really care too much about size, just functionality. They would like to keep it under $400 maximum.

Thanks all, I have no idea where to start looking for this.

A single AdobeID can handle up to 6 Desktops (Windows or Mac) and 6 attached devices (e.g. EInk Readers). You can also download lending library ebooks in the Adobe format (PDF or ePub). However, this does not narrow the field much, since almost all EInk readers except the Kindle support Adobe Digital Editions.

At about $200 per device, I think your best best is the Astak EZ Reader Pocket Pro. This has a 5" screen. You could also get one 5" Pocket Pro and one 6" EZ Reader Plus (the upgraded version of the EZ Reader Basic). These are very similar devices, except for the screen size.

The 5" Sony PRS-300 is a very basic reader and has a relatively old version of Adobe Digital Editions, but it works well enough and is widely available. Don't forget to include a protective cover (the EZ Reader's come with a cover).

For other options, see E-book Reader Matrix.

Thanks wallcraft!

One thing I didn't see on there (or mention) was a dictionary, I've been told recently that this is a must-have feature.

Most of the inexpensive EInk readers don't include dictionary support. One exception is the PocketBook 360, which is about $240 and is probably the nicest 5" device (good looks and a good feature set) if the price is ok . Note that there are no commercial dictionaries for the PocketBook, you have to download or create a dictionary in "pocketbook" format.

Otherwise, the best choice might be a Kindle 2, although it gets pricey when you add a cover.

The Sony PRS-600 is a pretty good reader for what you want. It's not too big and comes with dictionary support. And it supports a wide range of formats. And it falls within your price range.

I was considering telling them to pick a Sony, but the Pocketbook 360 doesn't seem like a bad choice either... I think I'll let them choose between the 2. Thanks guys.
