I personally could not care less... But good for him. He'd of course wants to promote his companies product, nothing wrong with that..... Adobe calling Apple closed, does make me giggle a bit though.... I use Foxit reader because to me Adobe Reader is a monster on the hard drive......

I often wonder what could have been had Apple developed an OS capable of running on the same computers as Windows and Linux. In other words, if Apple had chosen to focus on the software rather than the software-hardware controlled combination. I think there would be a lot more PCs running MacOS than we see today. But the short period of time in the 1990's wherein Apple allowed clone makers to build MacOS capable machines was quickly ended by Jobs when he returned. I remember that brief period of time as a time where Apple hardware was greatly surpassed by the more imaginative clone makers who listened to Mac owners and built what they asked for. I was a Mac owner until the end of the great period. But Jobs returned, and rather than build better Apple Macs he chose to kill off the clone makers and force us to have what Apple would let us have. I've never been sadder than then, and I reluctantly switched to Windows because quite frankly Windows PCs at that time far surpassed the capabilities of Mac computers. For over a decade now Jobs has kept Apple closed to any hardware not developed by Apple or approved by them. I used to hate Microsoft, but at least Microsoft only dominated the software. Apple arrogantly dominates the software and hardware. And instead of diehard Apple fans being agitated by how they are treated by Apple, they have developed this weird cult around Apple wherein any one who slightly disagrees with them is attacked viciously and slanderously. True, Adobe is a closed company and I don't care for them, although I use their Photoshop suite of tools. But Apple is more closed and more out of touch. Be honest, would most Apple fans have designed the iPad as a large, limited iPod touch? No. Most of what I read might be positive toward the iPad, but you can detect a lot of disappointment in that it was not a MacOS style of netbook tablet. And where are the MacOS netbooks? I think a lot of Apple fans would love to have one, but does Apple listen to them or care? Apparently not.

Netbooks are dead. Tablets/pads will kill them pretty quick. I got the very first netbook (Asus 701) when it came out three years ago. The whole netbook thing is a short lived fad. Of course there will remain a few in the market place, but their 15 minutes of fame is over. The only reason I keep mine is it is what I use to sync my iPad, wife's iPad, and my iPhone to. My desktop is "business only", for me that's music creation and Photoshop, so I don't want iTunes or games and such cluttering it up.....

Also (to show how really bizarre I am) I run Windows 7 Starter on my Gateway netbook and home made desktop.....and love it! Starter does just the things I need, nothing more. I tweaked it a bit, and it is faster and more stable than XP ever was........ sorry for the completely off topic......

Oh, and if you want an OSX netbook, most of the current models will run OSX with very little tweaking. Many people do it, and there are several websites devoted to it. I don't like OSX or I would do it.......

One more thing, for your continued need to beat the tired Apple sucks dead horse.... You're starting to look pretty silly..... Just a heads up for ya...... Do you belong to the Rainbow Amateur Radio Association? I know a lot of ham radio freaks do..... I'm sure you won't get all "defensive" when I say that....

I disagree 100% My netbook is infinitely more useful than my ipad for alot of purposes. A netbook meets more peoples needs than the iPad. Also the netbook "fad" has sold ~40 million with targets of 15 million this year alone.

One can actually type much better on a netbook, as well as run a huge stable of software that actually doesnt cost. Google docs actually runs on it. So does Unswindle *grin* Slingplayer on my netbook doesnt cost $30 as opposed to my iPod Touch. VNC Viewer doesnt cost $10 on my netbook it is free. Stellararium is an incredible freeware planetarium program. It is infinitely more open than my iPad. VLC will play any format video you throw at it. My netbook actually support bluetooth headset profile so I can use VOIP with it. I can do that with my iPad as well if I want to plug in OR use it as speakerphone. Oh and dont forget about calibre. And Google Earth.

IMO They are totally different devices. iPad is mroe for consumption as opposed to creation. Netbook is a great travel laptop to use for creation. If I were going to write a novel, Id use a netbook over the iPad. The netbook is my laptop replacement. Surfing in bed, iPad will win hands down. If it wasnt for my netbook, the iPad would be going back and I would be looking at a Win7 tablet, since Apple limits what one can do with the iPad.

Well you have to hand it to Jobs. He has taken Apple from a 5bil market cap to 220 bil in 15 years. Whereas MSFT gave aapl 150 million in 1997, Now apple is almost the market cap of microsoft. That is impressive even if you dont like Jobs tactics

I don't think netbooks will die, but I do think tablet's market may shrink.

I'm biased though as I've always found netbooks completely pointless. I will always have a laptop as I don't like having a desktop at home. That and being a professor most universities give us desktops for the office and laptops for home.

So I just have no need for a smaller laptop with a small keyboard that's harder to type on, and that lacks power to run my statistical analyses, stream HD video and all the other stuff I do on my laptop that requires full computing power.

So I just have no need. But I do have a need for a tablet to use as a reader, document mark up tool, stream video in bed (as opposed to my hot laptop), surfing the net on the couch (like doing that on the iPad more than on my laptop) etc.

So I think netbooks will stick around as some just need a tiny laptop for light computing tasks that is easier to carry around than a laptop top. But Netbooks have never fit any of my personal needs.

I have a desktop (Dual screen ) at home that I use for my hardcore tasks. I have no laptop, so the netbook is my laptop. And its a great laptop for me. I am not really doing any dvd ripping, or running handbrake on it, but it weighs 3 lbs and is really nice to take back and forth to places. I can see myself taking my ipad in place of my netbook sometimes, but while traveling I will allways have my netbook around.

Never know when you might need a little chat roulette..KIDDING just kidding

Yeah, i didn't mean to imply that netbooks are useless. I see why people like them.

They just do nothing for me as I prefer having a laptop as my only home computing option. Loathe desktops after spending 50+ hours at my work desk per week, so I like not even having a desk at home!

But netbooks are useful for many, especially if you have a desktop at home and just want something really light to use in other places for web browsing etc.

The weight never bothers me much with my laptop. It's a little over 5lbs which is no big deal when traveling. When I get an iPad or other tablet I'll mainly just use that for traveling, with exception of business trips, conferences etc. where I need my laptop to do work.

"Cheap" is the key reason for such sales.

Virtually all netbooks I've tried seem underpowered, not all that light, and butt-ugly. But, they are usually cheap.

On the other hand, not cheap enough. I keep a 13" Mac Book Pro (2.53) at the office (hooked up to an Apple 24" IPS monitor - hence my love for IPS) and take it with me when I travel. It's a bit more $ than a netbook, but well worth it if you use it all the time. And 13" is probably the smallest size for doing any real work while away.

BTW, dmaul1114, a 27" iMac will easily cure your loathing of desktops...

BTW, I do agree with Lee Brimelow on the Flash thing. F**k you Jobs!

I'm sure the whole Apple-Adobe situation will only make Photoshop and Indesign and Premiere work better, in the future, on Apple Macs.

Pbbbbbbbbbbt!
