New (to me) SF authors

I recently saw some SF stories posted on Project Gutenberg from two authors I had heard of, but never read: Andre Alice Norton and Marion Zimmer Bradley. After sampling the terrible epubs from Gutenberg, I headed over to Feedbooks, where I found much better epub versions of the same stories.

So far, I have read the following:

Star Born - Norton
Star Hunter - Norton
Year of the Big Thaw - Bradley
The Planet Savers - Bradley

I'm currently reading "The Door Through Space" by Bradley.

I must say that these two ladies were damn good SF writers. I particularly thought "Star Born" was a very good story. I don't think I've read a better treatment of human and alien interaction (especially where the aliens weren't the bad guys).

It's great that I continue to find something good to read from the public domain. Being very short on funds for things like books (e or otherwise), I really appreciate finding good freebies. So, a special thank you to both Project Gutenberg and Feedbooks.

check out some of Norton's stuff at the Baen Free Library. and her stuff isn't that expensive if you want more from the Baen site.

Piper

If you are looking for a good public domain sci-fi writer I recommend H Beam Piper, very good stuff. I also like Murry Lienster (if I am remembering correctly), Medship is avialable through Baen but others are through Project Gutenberg.

Of course there is always Jules Verne, a classic.

Distributed Proofreaders finished up the Astounding Stories magazine a while back I believe, it might be in formatting stage currently depending on the year/month of that edition. There were some really good short stories in them that were very creative considering when they were written and how much things have changed since then!
