MobileRead Recommended... Lists
When discussing some published "Top Fantasy Lists" in a thread here, I thought it would be fun to know what the most popular, most frequently recommended, and/or favourite fantasy reads were among MR users. There are many threads devoted to suggestions and individual's lists, but I was wondering how they would tally up as a group. MR users are discerning readers with broad experience, and I often use your suggestions to choose my next read.

So far I've created two Goodreads listopia lists - one for fantasy and one for science fiction - and I'm hoping MR users will add their favourites. The lists are dynamic and can be updated as books are read and nobody needs to do any record-keeping. You do need to have a Goodreads account, and I apologize to those of you who don't. Listopia was just the easiest means of creating such a list.

There is only one rule. Each book must be legally available as an eBook in at least one country. And one request - when recommending a series, please only add the first book (#1) in the series.

The Lists:

MobileRead Recommended Fantasy

MobileRead Recommended Science Fiction

MobileRead Recommended Mystery & Detective

And these are just for starters. If anyone wants to add a list for another genre, pm me or post in this thread and I will add it to this post.

Great idea.
One problem though, listopia has a limit of 100 books per list I think.
Eventually if people want to add a book, it will be impossible.

The "Best Books Ever" list has 25 000+ books on it, so it should be okay. My browser shows 100 books per page, but you can change pages at the bottom of the list.

Oh btw, I see somebody went ahead and totally ignored your request to only add 1st book of the series. (Fantasy list) Why do people do that???
While you can't remove books from the list yourself (unless you have librarian status), you can ask in this group to have them removed if you want.

Great idea! Since I'm not always sure if a book falls into fantasy or science fiction, feel free to tell me to remove a book
Regarding the first book of a series, I wasn't sure what to do when an omnibus edition exists. In doubt, I put the first one, but I can remove it in favour of the omnibus.

Really just to avoid clutter. If someone is looking for recommendations, they have to start with the first book anyway, right?

Regarding whether a book is fantasy or sci-fi, so many could be classified as either, so some may appear on both lists. That's okay. This is for fun.

IIRC the rule is that each person can Vote for up to 100 books per list (or something like that).
