How to get the newspapers from newspaperdirect onto the DR800?

The DR1000S had a pressreader app on the device. The pressreader desktop app does not recognice the DR800, the papers are not downloadable as Epub or PDF files. So, any ideas, how to side load them? Or is it possible to get the pressreader app from the DR1000 and install it? Can those of you that tried it over 3G download directly to the device?

Hans,

the application on the DR800 is the same as on the DR1000. This application only reads the *.np format. To get these, you first must "download an issue", goto the library and select the newspaper. Then you should be able to "export to iRex" from the file menu. The device doesn't have to be attached to your computer to do this, you can first export it to your computer and then simply copy it to your device over USB.

Note1: this is the case for a windows PC... are you using a Mac?
Note2: the latest version : 5.10.225.0 has a bug, that has crippled the "export to iRex" function (the app crashes..) so I'm back to the 5.10.117.0 version

I've downloaded 1 newspaper wirelessly, but I was not satisfied with the quality. The newspapers I read aren't parsed properly, so the articles are scrambled somewhat or missing. I prefer the *.np format, it's really WYSIWYG and it looks exactly like the original paper version.

Yes, I am using a PC with Windows 7, reader version 5.10.225.0. I just found out that all of the papers I downloaded where not exportable, so the "export to Irex" is grayed out. Ok, I found one that is, and as you predicted, the reader crashes.

Can you point me to a link where I can get the old version 5.10.117.0? My searches have not turned up anything downloadable yet.

Sorry Hans, that could be a problem. I just accidentally found an old install file after I noticed the bug. Still waiting for a reply from Newspaperdirect -support. If you would also report this bug on their support site, they might realize sooner they have a problem...

if you have an ftp server or something I could sent it to you (it's a 16 MB file)
I'll try my v-drive... (sent details via PM)

Everything works fine, now. Even the Chinese paper is quite readable. You have been a great help.

I got a reply to my e-mail from Newspaperdirect on these issues. They responded very quickly!

<<We are aware of the problem with "Export to iRex" function in the latest version of PressReader. We will have the new version of PressReader released soon with in 2 days.

In the meantime, you can export newspapers to eReader devices via USB connection, directly on our site. To download your favorite titles directly from PressDisplay.com, simply connect iRex device to your pc or laptop via USB cable, click the “Export to eReader” option from the front page of any paper and select iRex device from the list of e-Readers that appears.

Please note that publications activated with Smart Navigation features (distinguished by ) symbol next to the publication name on our site can be exported to eReader devices. It is our goal to have all the publications on our site activated with Smart Navigation feature. >>

Just received an e-mail that a new version 0.326 is up at the Pressreader website. "Export to Irex" works fine with this one.
