Should I buy?

Hi All,
I'm very interested in buying the Sony Reader. I genuinely believe that all books will go this way eventually, and I love the idea of it. I also don't have enough physical storage space for all my books.

My concern is about content. I really would like to be able to get the latest releases. But looking at the Sony Connect store, they don't seem to carry any of the books on my list. The eReader store seems to have the best selection, but is there any way to convert their books to be readable on the Sony Reader?

I'd also love to find a good source for Sci Fi and mystery books that aren't new.

I have other concerns that I'm willing to overlook for now (no Mac support, DRM), but whether the books I want to read are available digitally is kind of the kicker! Is the Sony Connect store going to get better soon? Will most new releases be available with a delay, or will they just have the "best sellers" and stuff?

Weeeell, nobody really knows what the Connect store will or won't get in the future.

Although I do think it's a safe bet that they're trying to increase their offerings, we won't be able to tell what they'll get until they get it. That being said, I have already noticed a few titles being added that weren't there at the first opening of the store.

If Sci Fi is what you want, you can try (if you haven't already) BAEN Publishing -- they have a pretty good and growing collection of reasonably priced, DRM free books, and a fair number of free samples to get you hooked good and proper.

Agreed! I have found over 50 BAEN books to put on my reader. I have been a longtime fan of BAEN authors anyway and now that TOR sells many of their books thru the BAEN site, it is even better. I would go so far as to say that if the only source for reader content was the Sony store as it presently is, I would not have bought a reader. I do suspect that this situation will improve, but even if it does not, there is always BAEN.

I REALLY like the reading experience on the Sony reader, IMHO it is more comfortable and ergonomic than any kind of paper book.....

Thanks for your responses. I did a quick check, and there were a half dozen books on my list available from Sony Connect. I also liked the Baen site a alot. So I went ahead and ordered a Reader. I assume it'll be ages until I get it.

Any word on converting ereader books?
