Working out the wrinkles
Thanks everyone, I downloaded calibre and finally had a chance to convert my first book. I am still about 3 wks out from my IPad and will be updating my desktop unit at the same time along with getting wi-fi. Back to conversion, when I did the conversion, it created a new folder with the .rar file (original), the ePub file (converted) also the cover .jpeg and something called metadata.opf. Does this .opf file need to be maintain in the folder with the book or can it be discarded since the conversion is finished? Thanks Bob

Generally speaking, don't touch the Calibre library. It expects certain files to be there for certain reasons, and any interaction should go through the GUI or Calibre's command line tools. The OPF file exists because of a recently added feature that backs up metadata for each book in the books directory, creating the metadata.opf file. The intention is to be able to rebuild the library database, should it be damaged, from the libraries backed up metadata.opf files.
But seriously, don't mess with the files directly. You'll be entering, as they say, a world of hurt. |
