sorry, I'm a Chinese girl, I'm not good at English. but my e-book had a problem, so I came here to find help.
I got a sony prs-600.at first, It shows in low battery. I used it for a while. It works ok at this time. But, when I pushed the power button to right, it suddenly shut off, and I couldn't restart it, there was nothing in the screen, even the menu.So I begun to charge it with a sony psp charger (5v) .After a long time, the red power light has gone off. I thought the prs has been charged fully. But when I pushed the power button, the prs had nothing reactions, there was nothing showing in the screen and the light beside the power becoming yellow and shinning. Then I used the hard reset way to start it ,but it is still unworking. In a word, I couldn't open the prs 600 reader. I want to know is there any problem of softwares or the hardwares? How can i do. I 'm in China, So It's difficult for my to send it to America to repair it, I'm soooo upset, hoping someone can help me.Thank you very much. |

I suspect that you're trying to charge from the computer via a USB cable, Linda. Seems to me that seldom works with the Sony (no matter what your battery meter claims). You'll need a full charge via an ARC wall plug charger direct to the device. You can get one for a few dollars on the net with a universal adapter that will work in China. I got mine -- designed specifically for Sony PRS -- from http://www.gomadic.com nine months ago and haven't had a single problem since.

I have no idea... but .... have you tried plugging it in to your computer (USB) to see if the computer sees it? Sometimes that will wake one up... See if the Sony software, or Calibre show it and if you can view your library. Anyway.... let us know.
@neilmarr - the OP said in the first post they were using a PSP charger...... I assume it to be the barrel connection, if not then that is the problem. I know some PSP chargers use a USB connection, and it will not work... |

Lindabobo, It might help us to know if you used the PSP Charger with the barrel (round) tip or the USB connector. You mention seeing the yellow light, this usually appears when connecting to the PC. Was it connected to a PC when starting up? If not, you might try connecting it to a PC and turning it on. And, of course, if it was connected you might try powering it up not connected to a PC.

If the light is blinking yellow when you try to slide the power button than it is trying to turn on. Right guys? Because everytime I shut mine all the way down or do a soft reset it blinks yellow before it runs on. When the yellow light starts linking slide the power button a couple of times-what happens when you do that?

Charge indicator lights up in red while charging, and goes off when charging is complete ( page 14). Flashes in orange when your computer starts accessing the Reader via USB. |

I have a similar situation when I had some water spillage on my PRS 500. It refused to turn on every morning even the night before the batter meter shows a close to full charge. It still would not turn on even if charging it for a long time.
I later found out that plugging it into the AC adapter, press the preset button on the back and hold few seconds, then push the power switch simultaneously would start it up. Give that a shot...see if that helps. |

Thank you everyone here
Thank you everyone, I’m sooo moved, Although my poor English expressions, you guys are still willing to help me, all of you are so kind of people.
Kevin2960: Thank you very much, you are right, this forum is a really good place, people here are so kind and nice. I hope I could find a way to solve my e-book problem at here. Neilmarr: Thank you very much for your advices. Firstly, I charged the e-book via a USB cable. USB cable was indeed useless, I searched some advices in the Google , they gave me the same advice as you. So I borrowed a psp charger (ARC wall plug charger) from my friend (she has a sony psp ). The psp charger seems work well, because after charging a long time (nearly six or eight hour),the light beside the power went off( it became red when I pluged the psp charger in the e-book at the beginning) . So I thought the e-book was charged fully. But, when I slide the power button, there was nothing showing on the screen(I even could not see the home page, or the “opening …..” sign, the screen was dark/grey ) except the light (beside the power) became yellow/orange and blinking. Bremen Cole: Thank you very much for your advices. After charging over, I tried plugging it in to my computer (USB), and slide the power, the computer could not see it and there was no the usb icon in the middle of the screen of the e-book , I also could not find the e-book (Sony software )in my PC. It seems dead, no home page showing, or the “opening …..” sign, except the light (beside the power) became yellow/orange and blinking. 55555~~~~L tears~~~ emonti8384: Thank you very much for your help. You are right, My step was. At first, I have tried plugging it into the AC adapter or the usb to the PC. Then , I used something to push the reset button for a few seconds ( soft reset way ?), The e-book had no reactions (no home page showing, or the “opening …..” sign),and the light was black. Then, I slide the power, the light became yellow/orange and blinking. Then, I slide the power button a couple of times, The e-book still had no reactions except the light blinking. I pressed the reset button for a while and the light became black. Ken401: Thank you very much for your advices. You are so kind. At first, I charged the e-book via a USB cable. I found the yellow/orange and blinking light, so I searched in the Internet and got the same reason as these words “Flashes in orange when your computer starts accessing the Reader via USB” which you had mentioned in the post. So I was sure that the yellow/orange and blinking light didn’t mean problems. Then I found that charging the e-book via a USB cable was tooo slow and useless, So I borrowed a psp charger (ARC wall plug charger) from my friend (she has a sony psp ).The psp charger seems work well, because after charging a long time (nearly six or eight hour),the light beside the power went off( it became red when I pluged the psp charger in the e-book at the beginning) . So I thought the e-book was charged fully. Then I tried plugging it in to my computer (USB), and turn it on, the computer could not see it and there was no the usb icon in the middle of the screen of the e-book , I also could not find the e-book (Sony software )in my PC. There was anything showing on the screen. Then I used the soft reset way—use something to push the reset button for a while ( nearly three seconds), It was useless. Then I used the hard reset way ---use something to push the reset button for a while, then slide the power, at this time the light become orange/yellow, then press the back-turn button and the V+ button ant the same time. It was useless too, there was still noting in the screen(I even could not see the home page, or the “opening …..” sign, the screen was dark/grey ) OrcaBlue: you are so lucky, thank you very much for your kindness. I have the same situation with you “It refused to turn on every morning even the night before the batter meter shows a close to full charge. It still would not turn on even if charging it for a long time.” I followed your way and To hope some mirecal will coming, It regretted, I have tried plugging it into the AC adapter or the usb to the PC, then press the reset button and hold few seconds, then push the power. I still could see nothing in the screen. L((((( Last edited by Lindabobo; 03-07-2010 at 10:44 PM. |

thanks a lot
today, I sent my E-book to the Sony Repaired Center in China. they said the product is only sold out of China, so they only could try to repair it. they said mabe it is the problem of the charger. When the buttery is very low, it is uneasy to charge it by USB,and the psp charger which I borrowed from my friend is 5V, but the e-book needs
5.2v, So mabe the psp charger is not adapt to the E-book. They let me stay the e-book at their place and they will use the right charger(5.2v)to charge it. hope they are helpful. if it is indeed the problem as they say, I had to pay them 120 RMB for helping me to charge it. Hehe, a little expensive charging. I think neilmarr is right I should buy a universal adapter from http://www.gomadic.com Thanks a lot for all of your help. |

5V is fine... mine has charged happily for nearly 2 years on a 5V charger... a little below is not a problem as long as current (amperage) availability is around 2A (2,000mA). More doesn't matter, less charges more slowly and may overheat/fail.
