Question IDS supplied Shell Hack and Upgrade to 2.9.5

Has anybody experienced any problems with upgrading from 2.9.1 to 2.9.5 with the IDS Shell Hack enabled?

Scotty1024 made some comments about the upgrade not handling some modified er_registry.txt file, but I am not sure if he meant a custom er_registry.txt file, or the one supplied by the IDS?

thanks,
sigi (not wanting to brick his iliad a second time :-) )

I'm guessing - but I think this refered to anyone who has directly modified their er_registry.txt file, either through installing a program that does this or more likely be editing themselves ... If you have a vanilla install you'll most likely be fine, the hack itself won' tbe the problem - it'll beanything that modifes the file mentioned.

Thanks for your reply.

I went through with the update and everything went fine. The only strange thing is that the internal memory now only has 72MB free storage.

That is strange - Considering the unit was flashed so any existing content and files deleted - you wouldn't expect anything to be left. How much did you have before the re-flash (excluding content)?

I don't know exact figures, but it must have been more because the data I backuped wouldn't fit onto the device after the update to 2.9.5.

If I remember correctly, there were about 128MB free.

They had to prepare two things:
- The new bootloader
- Leave enough space in the rootfs for the Java runtime and the mobipocket reader

I've just done a df (diskfree) in the user partition and it's 131180 1-K blocks, so they have not shrinked it a lot.
