Request: Navigating through library

I'd really appreciate it if one of the DR800 owners on the list would try out use of a Calibre2Opds generated library catalog on their device. Specifically, I'm curious about two issues:
  • Can you use either the HTML or OPDS versions of the catalog to download books from a remote server (DropBox, for example)?
  • Can you use either version of the catalog locally on the device to navigate through the books loaded on the DR800, select one, and start reading it?

If the answer to either of these questions is 'no,' what would be needed to make it possible? Could either approach be enabled just through changes to the html or xml files, or would it require programming from iRex? I'm hoping for the former, of course...

I'm also very curious about this. I know the midori browser works from my previous thread, but apparently 3G is shut off for anything but B&N. Since they charge $1 for an 8MB paper, who knows how much you'd have to pay to download from dropbox.

Too bad the iRex has no Wi-Fi.

NewsPapersDirect are the ones charging $1 for those downloads though. That shouldn't come into play as far as figuring out how to get the 3G connection to work with a generic application (if it's even possible).

My understanding is that $1 is a delivery charge that gets paid to Verizon. Is that different from yours? If so, links?

NewspaperDirect can charge you a $1 because you have an account with them and they can just add it to your order. Who knows what they really do with that dollar. If you go to a generic internet location like a web site, how would you be charged? You don't have a direct account with Verizon or IREX. I suppose they can pop up a page asking for your creditcard info to complete the transaction... like a wifi hotspot. Chances are, Verizon may be blocking access to everything except several select store locations based on ip address or url. But doesn't hurt to try.

Exactly. Hopefully somebody will figure out a way to get the 3G working with other apps. I don't know if Verizon will be very happy about that though. I assume they won't be.
