MP3 on PB 360?
Greetings,
I was fooling around with some new themes on my Pocketbook 360 and I noticed that some of them included an icon for the music function included with the PB301. Out of curiosity, I clicked on it and found that it brought up a music player that quickly detected the mp3s on my sd card. Nothing much seemed to happen when I selected mp3s from within the player. When I selected an mp3 from within the file manager, however, I got a little music note icon at the bottom of the screen, seemingly indicating that the mp3 was being played. My question is: does the PB360 have the hardware capabilities to play mp3s or is this simply vestigial firmware? Woud it be possible to hook up a usb to 3.5 mm audio adaptor and, perhaps combined with some hackery of the firmware, listen to mp3s? Luqman |

The icon is included and in fact PB360 could theoretically play mp3 files, but there is no lineout for a headset or earhearers.

There is also MP3 functionality which you can select in Settings / key assignments.

So, is there anyway to adapt the usb port into an audio out port? Some cell phones use an adapter to do just this.

There is definitely mp3 player software on the PB 360. It can be brought up either by selecting a theme that includes the Music Player (i.e. a 301 theme) or by selecting an MP3 from the file browser. I am curious as to whether it is possible to send the output to a pair of head phones connected via an adapter attached to the USB port,

Shouldn't that be discarded in a new firmware update? I mean, if the device can't play them, it seems unnecessary to make it detect MP3 files.

The firmware is "generic" across a range of different devices. It just so happens that the PB301 has audio output, but the 360 doesn't. The MP3 playing capability is there for the 301.

As far as I know, the 360° lacks a sound chip entirely so there's no way to get the mp3 to play anyway.

Yes, but even then... an effort should be made to differentiate the firmwares further, as not to provoke confusions like this one.
