Newbie

Hi from the UK.
I have recently been lucky enough to have a PRS 600. My husband has a 505.
We are really enjoying our readers, despite a few teething problems but I am disappointed that we can't share any books. Is it impossible.

Hi and welcome to mobileread

You should be able to share books that have no DRM protection on them - usually copyright-free books like the ones here on mobileread (see the e-books link, top left) and in other places such as epubbooks.com and manybooks.net

But books you buy online usually have DRM protection and well sharing those is a different ball-game.

You might want to ask this question though in the Sony forum where perhaps some knowledgeable person can help:

ebooks in LRX format cannot be shared at all. Luckily, you can now re-download them from the Sony Store at ePubs with Adobe Adept DRM instead.

And ePubs with Adept DRM /can/ have the DRM removed. But unfortunately, no-one can tell you exactly how to do that here, as it's a site policy not to post such information. (As in several countries it's said to be illegal to help anyone to remove DRM.)

There are some blogs about that will help, especially by someone who goes by the name of I Love Cabbages. And a Dark Reverser. And recently, Alf the Apprentice.

Welcome to MR, Mazy

I have 2 505's (my mom's and mine). I have Sony Reader Library and ADE on my laptop (Vista).

Both Readers are under one e-mail and password on Reader Library and ADE. They are both authorized on Reader Library and ADE.

My mom and I are able to share books (although we really don't share much as we have such different taste in reading material )

Do you have your Readers authorized to different account names?

Yes I think we are on different accounts, I will look into that maybe we can change.I don't want to break the law or anything its just so inconvenient to have to swap readers sometimes.
