News dump of display technology stories

It's almost impossible to be a fan of mobile devices without being fascinated by new display technology. The functionality of a device is greatly dependent on the quality of a display, even with regard to battery life. New display technologies are eagerly sought after.

There's been a lot of news on the topic recently that just hasn't made it to the MobileRead pages, so we are going to remedy that today with some interesting stories that caught our eye. And we even threw in a couple of articles on small liquid camera lenses and UMPC screen protectors as a bonus.

May soon be here ... E Ink announced a prototype in October last year.

Higher resolution may be another area: Seiko Epson recently announced a prototype of very high resolution e-paper -- looks like it is more than 300 dpi (probably B/W only), although only about half the size of current e-paper readers. This looks very interesting: but I hope they develop some really fast refresh mechanism while they're about it ... http://www.epson.co.jp/e/newsroom/20...s_20060612.htm .

Can you believe this ?
I've never seen so much hype on a product concept before !
It's getting frustrating. The Iliadites(thank this one to NatCh) are the only benificiaries of this gorgeous extraordinary technology. To my eyes, since the personal computer came out, e-ink is the best thing next to internet !

You are so right! I don't remember when was the first time I read about the benefits of electronic paper. Must have been several years ago. And today, I can still use one hand to count the number of usable e-paper applications available to end users.

Bigger screens [A4] would be nice in future, too. We live in a world of documents in size of A4 [~ letter in US].
