My second try at an E-Book reader

I just ordered an Astak EZ Reader 6". According to UPS tracking it should be here Wednesday or Thursday. I picked the Astak because I like the wide range of formats available, and I chose the 6" over the Pocket Pro because of the availability of alternate firmware. The fact that the underlying OS is Linux didn't hurt either since I am a big fan of Linux.

This is my first e-book reader in several years. The first was a Rocket E-Book and it was a big disappointment to me. I hope this one turns out better .

Dear Woodlark:

Welcome to our happy band of Astak lovers!

I work for Astak and I try to greet everyone to show that we have a continuous presence on here. This is not just a forum of fans. It is a forum of fans and Astak working in concert.

We care about out end users! Your 6 inch is a very tried and true device with a history of little or no problems. FRY's Electronics says it has less returns that any other eBook Reader by far! So, you have definitely purchased a good one. And... it comes complete... in that box you will find a carrying case (a good one), ear buds, wrist least, AC charger, USB cable, user manual, and even a screwdriver (the battery is USER-Replaceable rechargeable)!!

PLEASE, I beg everyone who buys, do the folowing:

1. IF the battery is loose in the box, install it first. Most will come with the battery pre-installed. Charge for 8-12 hours initially even IF the green light comes on!! The Battery Life Gauge needs to "learn" from the battery what "full" really is.
2. Do the latest firmware upgrade for your 6 inch at: www.theEZreader.com/html under "support".
3. READ the FAQ sheet (also under "support) as it is always current. The User Manual can grow stale after a while. The FAQ sheet is filled with info and tips and will really help you! That is way more important!!

On this forum you will find a ton of helpful people. Our Astak community is alive and kicking and growing!

I am glad that you are here!! You will love your new purchase!!

I wish your new ebook reader will not be a disappointment to you. It does a good job as a book reader and the support is outstanding. The forum is a nice place to be too!
