Ce livre dont le titre exact est "Davout, maréchal d'Empire, duc d'Auerstaedt, prince d'Eckmühl (1770-1823)" a été écrit par son arrière-petit-fils, le comte Vigier et publié en 1898.

Il s'agit du tome premier dont le récit s'arrête à l'été 1808. Il comprend notamment les campagnes d'Egypte, d'Autriche (1805) et de Prusse (1806).
