THE MOST IMPORTANT THING! in pp @ ALL

according to the most important thing is SAFTY...
we all love reading in our bed and the eink display is so fragile that u cant even imagine. a small press on the screen n d screen crumbles( very possible when reading in bed)
pp come wit fortified cover n i think even accidently sitting on it wont do any harm. sony's cover is exposed to it. sony people r really shrewd they dont even provide a charger and working with reader lib is pathetic. u cant replace sony' battery ursellf its so complicated(again u cant imagine how much) i crcaked d screen while replacing.
so buy pp as it ll last long
i ve experienced that a 5 inch is better size than 6 inch it becomes bulky.
if one wanna ve 2 reader then i suggest
1)size 5 n
2)size 8 or 10

You mean a "small press on the screen" when one's BUTTOCK touches the screen....don't you? (I imagine the left or right part of the screen being touched by either the left or right buttock would spell complete and irrevocable disaster, dependent upon weight distribution. Fatty tissue might actually cushion potential disaster, although I know of no scientific studies on this aspect to prove or disprove my thesis.)

I've often pressed my finger on the screen, to no ill effects.

You can also get a cover for the Sony Pocket Edition. It just doesn't come with one at it's current price, but the option is always available.

Certainly it is true that you can break the screen on any e-paper device (except some very new expensive ones just starting to appear) but this is not a safety issue as the glass is way below the plastic surface of the device (a substrate of the screen). It will render the eBook useless to break it but it won't scatter glass all over your bed.

Smile What asdx is saying is a great point!

Dear All:

I thank asdx for bringing up a very valid point. Yes, you can pay extra for cases for the Sony and Kindle (both good companies) but they often run $59 and up for a crush-resistant one. I do not advocate sitting on your Pocket PRO even in the case... but the point by asdx is that the case comes included with the Pocket PRO and it does a good job of protecting the screen!

In this time of cloth pouches coming with devices, it is refreshing to see Astak sticking with including the case for the safety of the device! I am not trying to pat Astak on the back here... but to urge other brands to do likewise and INCLUDE A STURDY CASE. No more cloth pouches please!

Thank you, asdx for a nice post!!

Excellent points. The Sony is currently going for $179, so maybe its more economical and safer to get a Sony and buy a ruggedized case?

@ dr drib nice reply, i m sure u have tried this
thats y i lv this forum , people freely share even their wild experiences

substrate is definitely a sensitive part and a small press would leave lines or part of d screen dead.
other brands ignore this imp issue i.e. y i called them shrewd.

this issue is only and appropriately addressed by astak only, besides they give sd card, headphones, screw driver

Dear John:

If you do not value having the extras that the Pocket PRO has... MAYBE it is remotely economical. However, do you really want a device devoid of the SD card slot, the Text-To-Speech, 6 colors, a user-replaceable rechargeable battery,a scroll wheel, and many other features? A true bargain has to take all of the features into account in my opinion. Otherwise it is not a real bargain.

Ergonomics

Robert missed what I think is the biggest drawback of many of the Brand-models of Book readers: Ergonomics.

Hold a PEz in you Left hand: The advance page is near your thumb, uncluttered by other buttons that can be inadvertently pressed.

Hold a PEz in your Right hand: The thumb wheel is near your Index finger, with NO other buttons nearby.

You can hold the PEz naturaly as you would reading and not have to move your grip to change pages.

I haven't used the SD card slot on my device. It isn't a deal breaker for me.

6 colors
I only need one color. And my reader comes in very nice silver color with accents. Does the PP have accents, or is it a boring one color.

Quote:
a user-replaceable rechargeable battery
Doesn't really matter to me. BTW, I do have a Sony and it is user replacable.

,a scroll wheel
I'm not sure I see the value in that.

You mean like the 400 MHZ processor and Epson controller for instantaneous page turns?

No argument here. Quality is also very important, and support.
