How would you change the nook?

These are some trivial things, but I have to go by a particular standard in case Barnes & Noble decides to clean up the initial design of the nook.

Some hardware changes:

- Merge the page turning keys to 1 per side, please, I understand that there is a certain consistency requirement for physical/touch hybrid devices, but
even though it isn't an issue I can see complaints in the horizon.

CRITICAL UPDATE to #1:

Actually, scratch that, the buttons are ok

- Individualize the home button, I am proud that B&N had added a really flush
button, but wouldn't it be better if the sensor was more tightened? I mean I don't want to end up going to front page just cause I'm cleaning the bottom screen.

- Add a better MicroSD slot, external even. I don't like the fact that I have to
fiddle with a fragile restraint to just put in a single card, an external slot is
a basic addition to more then half the poplation of electronic devices this
second half of a decade.

These are just my two cents, please, move on if you hate particular idea's of change.

Have two buttons visible from any LCD screen: One to bring up the keyboard, the other to bring up the cursor and scroll screen.

Make book hyperlinks work.

Store notes in a dedicated file that is accessible from a PC or Mac.

Have an external wifi/airplane mode button or switch to quickly turn it on or off. I agree with the external SD slot. I would also add a color e-ink screen...since we are dreaming

Wierd that you mention the color dream, but I would think B&N will make a lighter, more media and control appealing nook, not that it isn't a major fancy charm already.

I was told by many, color will not likely manifest fully until late 2010 if plausible.

I would change the dictionary search function. Rather than having a scroll wheel on the LCD, I would display the text on the LCD so you can scroll up and down and then tap the word you want to look up. The current method is slow and the e-ink has to refresh after every press on the wheel.

If I understand you correctly, I don't agree with this. Why one per side? I use all 4 buttons currently available on the nook (2 per side) depending on which hand I am holding the nook with.

Things the Nook needs:

The page turning buttons need to respond to a lighter touch

The sweep on the lower screen does not (barely ever) change the page reliably

The pdf reading capibility is very very poor need to be improved

The battery life is barely two days, need to be improvred and not by reducing functionality

Dump the color on the small screen, it is not needed

Do not flatten the file heirarchy!!!!

Don't need music and photos on an e-reader, delete and improve the rest of the thing

make it easier to manage content in "my documents" within the nook.

make an internet browser that allows other access to other sites, (like this one)

Actually, I think they could handle most people's feature wishlist with a single addition--put out an SDK for the platform.

I would love the ability to delete read books. In fact that is the only request I have. If it does delete books I am finished with I haven't found the command yet. Love the speed, love the ability to change pages from either side, buttons have the correct pressure to use. All in all I am very happy with it.

You can archive the books you have bought from B&N, which effectively removes them from your device. For other books, the only way I know to remove them is to delete them from your computer while the Nook is connected via USB. It's not ideal, and I also would love to see a delete option on the Nook itself.

Are there any eInk devices that delete ebooks from the reader

Haven't purchased any ebooks from B&N, still have more that 200.00 in micro pay at fictionwise. Unless B&N sells for less than fictionwise I see no reason to change over to them. Since they own fictionwise, they aren't really loosing much.

I am used to removing the ebooks manually on the newer readers, older types allow me to delete as I read. The rocket/rb1100/palms/jetbook lite all allow deletion and the one thing they all have in common is that none of them are eInk. I think there may be some pattern there. hmmm

I wonder if there are any eInk readers that actually delete from the reader. Ereader software on my palms allow this, so does mobipocket software.

I seem to be the most experienced computer user here(started on mainframes in 1978), and yet I seem to be one of the few who just wants a reader, to read on. Most specifically to read books I purchase. I have never seen a library in my area that would know an ebook if it danced naked in front of them. I am sure that my local library would never carry ebooks of the types I read, the head librarian is death on scifi.

Hey guys, check out the neat navigation kbs has implemented for Trook: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0i-wwYbqxg

By the looks of it, nook community will be much quicker to implement missed features, so you might as well start posting what would you like on nook beyond B&N features.

Might want to check out http://nookdevs.com/Wishlist for what's already been posted.
