The Alex will be released on Feb 22 @ $399

From Engadget:

Quote:
A price of $399, putting it nearly $150 higher than its closest competition at this point, the Nook, and while our brief hands-on time with the device left us with a much better impression than Barnes & Noble's device did when we got to play with it, we're not sure just how many people are going to be willing to pay that much of a premium for it.
Unfortunately, they've changed the color from black.

I like this device but the price with way too high. It seems that the new crop is starting out much higher. I bought both K1 and K2 at their highest prices, I won't be doing that again. With 3 readers, I can afford to be patient.

Short video by jkkmobile. It doesn't really show much of the functionality.

Really too bad about the price, too bad about the color, too bad about the buttons, too bad about the e-ink.

Perhaps if it were $200, I'd be interested.

So you don't want color, buttons or e-ink? What is it you're after?

I like the device, myself, though I'm not a huge e-ink fan myself. I've still got my ebookwise backlit lcd device which I thing is great - as long as no images are involved and I remember that you need to convert most books to go on it (thank you Calibre).

I do appreciate the combination, essentially, of a PDA here, as it would be with me everywhere I went, just like my ebook reader is now. I have a separate PDA, but usually leave it behind because of (a) poor battery life and (b)the fact that when the batteries die, all data is lost - and yes, it's an older one.

Was there any info on battery life for this with/without the pda?

No, I was referring to the change from black to gray (color), the lousy two-handed button placement (buttons), and the e-ink (there are better possibilities).

Interesting... I think it is a little too expensive for a 6" reader but still...

I have removed the Alex from my profile. Too expensive. I think all this high pricing is going to boost sales of the already established readers.

Yea... what's up... $400 is the price that the Kindle, Sony 700 where released at over 2 years ago. Also, if they can sell the nook for $250 which is basically the same hard ware....

Then again, the nook is supported by back end ebook sales while the Alex probably isn't.

Yet another reader priced too high. There goes Alex and the Que. Besides, if I was going to spend $400 on a reader, I would have to have a larger then 6" screen.

Yea... $400 for a 6inch is way too much these days.

But, compare the Que prices to the iRex prices and I think it is pretty much in line for the features. Yea, I know, there's another thread for this topic.
