A Sony guy needs K2 assistance... Can K2 keep font/page prefs for 2 users?
So a friend of mine got a K2 for Christmas... He and his wife are sharing a single device and reading the same book. However, they prefer different font sizes, and they read at different speeds. Is there any way to store prefs on a per-user basis i.e.- profiles, etc.?
I've had very little face time with Kindles since my whole fam has Sonys. There isn't a way to do this that I know of on the Sonys. The closest to this would be to bookmark our respective pages and to switch font sizes every time the book switches hands. I'm thinking this would be the case on the Kindle as well but want to confirm. Thoughts? Thanks in advance... |

No way to store preferences. As each person reads they will have to change the font size to the one they want. It basically 2/3 clicks to change the font and takes a few seconds (font button, pick font size and push the joystick toggle).
The only way I can think of to save separate bookmarks would be to strip the DRM and save a second copy of the book with a slightly altered titled (you can do this with Calibre's metadata function). That way they each have their own version of the book with their own bookmarks and notes. They can also read the books on an iPhone/iPod Touch and with the Kindle for PC app. If they turn syncing off and use the search function or notate the location of where they stopped reading, they can continue to read on other devices. Edit: They should really just buy another Kindle. ![]() Last edited by daffy4u; 01-14-2010 at 02:59 PM. |

No there is not. For 2 people to use the same device they need to remember the location that they finished reading and then go to that location when they get the kindle back to read.

So when you bookmark a page, does it store a list of your bookmarks, or can you only place a single bookmark at a time per book? On the Sonys, it stores any number of bookmarks on the particular book's submenu. The "Continue Reading" function on the book's menu stores the last-accessed page.

Okay, I did it without removing the DRM. I used the Mobi2Mobi GUI because my Calibre is setup to remove DRM.
1. I made a copy of the book file and saved it to the desktop 2. I opened the Mobi2Mobi GUI and changed the title and saved the as a .mobi instead of .azw file (just to tell them apart at a glance). 3. I copied the Mobi2Mobi version to my K2s documents folder and viola, I have 2 versions of the book on my K2 without removing the DRM. ![]() |

Your book will automatically open to the last page read when you click on it. If you are using Whispersync, you will be asked if you want to open to the last page read of whatever device you read the farthest on. If you want to visit previous books marks you can do so via the menu. |
