Good to be here...
Greetings All,
It's good to be here, amongst so many avid readers and gadget heads! I just ordered my first "official" eBook reader, a (Red!) Sony PRS-600. A few years back I was using a Palm m515 as a mobile reader, and for various reasons the Palm fell into disuse. In anticipation of the Sony, I've dusted off my Palm and got her working again--and discovered Plucker for the first time. So I've been having a lot of (mostly pointless) fun with that. I've also discovered Calibre in anticipation of being a more "immersed" ebook reader, and expect I'll find a few folks here who will be quite knowledgeable with that piece of kit. For many years I was a little down on myself for not reading more. I was in a sort of a "funk" about it, you might say. I love books--I love their power, their historical significance in the course of human development and culture, and I even love the very idea of what a book is. But for some reason I had the hardest time "getting into" reading for many years. I even thought it was an issue with my eyesight. But about two years ago I resolved to read more--to make more space for it in my (undisciplined) life. And I feel really good about the changes I've made during that time. I still spend more time on "questionable" pursuits that could be better spent reading. But it is what it is. All in all I feel pretty empowered and lucky now to have shown some light into my life with my re-invigorated love of reading, and that's why buying a decent mobile book reader feels like such a "good thing." You'll probably not hear a whole lot from me after this post, so I'll simply take this opportunity to thank all of you for your time, energy, and intelligent contributions to this forum. WE are the power of the Internet when it comes to information like this. Enjoy! Prem |

Thanks for the warm welcome, desertgrandma and cassidym! I really appreciate that.
I'm also enjoying the maturation of online user communities like this one. They just keep getting better and better. My main problem is that I'll sometimes find a thread about something and I'll neglect to check the date. This happened the other day when I was researching ebook creation and started looking for a copy of libprs500 - only to discover that I already had it in its current form: Calibre! I know this will happen less often as I become more familiar with the "mobileread world." Anyhow--thanks again to the both of you for chiming in and I wish you all the best! |
