Can you adjust what "Read-To-Me" pronounces?

I have to admit, I just really like reading along and listening to the Read-To-Me reading the book aloud.

The latest book I am reading uses back quotes in nearly every line - which the Kindle always reads as "backquoteBlah Blah Blah". This text also uses 3 rows of 5 asterisks between scene changes, which the Kindle dutifully reads as "asteriskasteriskasteriskasteriskasteriskasteriska steriskasteriskasteriskasteriskasteriskasteriskast eriskasteriskasterisk"

Now I don't have to tell you that this gets mighty irritating after a while.

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an "ignore" list to tell it NOT to pronounce certain words?

I've noticed that it pronounces idea as i-dee-aa - which is really stupid.

If a sentence ends with the word miss followed by a period ( miss.) it pronounces it Mississippi.

I did a test comparing my TomTom GPS TTS against my Kindle 2 TTS. Since I can't load anything for the TomTom to read, I wrote text file with a few words the GPS mispronounced and loaded it onto my K2.

The words were written this way:

405 north toward Santa Monica

Los Angeles

The results were:

405 (Angelenos pronounce it 4-oh-5, GPS pronounced it 4-west-5, K2 pronounced it 4 hundred and 5)

Santa Monica (GPS was correct but it sounded weird, K2 said "Santa Monica Los")

Los Angeles (I can't begin to replicate the way GPS mangled it, but K2 missed the "Angles" part as you see above)

Not all TTS is created equal.

Email Amazon about it. I am sure they are working on the implementation but the more they know customers want an improved TTS feature the more they might look into it.

Some companies like Apple really have worked on theirs, they can be quite intelligent eventually. However Amazon would probably run into hardware limitations so can't do something too advanced because of those processing limitations.
