Formatting PDF's for the PRS300

Hello,

I got my PRS300 a couple weeks ago, been reading some books from Gutenberg and other sources without issue, using Calibre to manage them. However, most PDFs, whether converted to LRF or epub or whathaveyou just don't look right, not properly justified. Often books are a whole line, then a bit of a line, then another comeplete line. It really makes it difficult to read.

Anyway, I was wondering if there's a tool I that could help me get them formatted properly, even if it has to be done by hand. Though the less tedious is better.

Have you tried just leaving them as PDF's? Your 300 can read PDF's, and sometimes a PDF converts weird..... Anyway, if you haven't already, try leaving them as PDF's and see how they look......

Well the issue with the book I'm trying to read now is that it's formatted fine in small, but it's too small to be comfortably read (wide empty margins) and zooming in creates the same problem.

You could try finding a program that lets you crop the pdf margins (I don't know of any free ones offhand, if anyone here does maybe they could mention them), if the margins are large it will help a lot. There are also programs such as sopfd and pdflrf that crop and chop pdf files to make them readable on Sony devices. Also, did you try reading in landscape mode?

also, you could maybe try converting your pdf files to rtf and directly loading the rtf files on your reader. here is a free site that does that

http://www.pdftoword.com/

if it is just text, you shouldn't have any problems.

Cropping margins, you say? soPDF does that nicely. Don't let the console application scare you, just look through the thread (page 5) for a nice GUI. Experiment with the settings and enjoy a margin free PDF.

Or if you're using a Mac, Preview can crop off margins as well
