Which Color would you choose for your PRS-600?

I'm having a hard time deciding which color for the 600 reader as a gift for my wife. I haven't got a chance to go to the stores and look at them up close yet.

I'm thinking red, but is it a appropriate color for long-period reading? the silver, well kind of cheesy from the pictures and also very electronic-ish... the black looks elegant but somehow the edges looks thicker to me than those of other color model, and wife may not like black...

please share some thoughts if you would. I'm pretty sure it is a great reader from the reviews out there and probably i'm just worrying too much...

I got a silver 600 and am very happy with it! I chose it because it was the closest to the Reader's page color, and it matches the inside of the cover I bought. Also it was the only one immediately available at the time . . .

I have a pink m-edge cover with a soft grey inside. The silver is brushed and does not look "cheesy" to me at all! It looks like a nice picture frame. It is shiny (reflective), which is pretty but can be distracting when reading. I would imagine all colors are shiny though.

Could always give her a gift certificate (handmade works ) and let her choose her own!

Whatever you decide, I am sure she will love it!!

Good luck,
Fi

I have a black PRS-600 and a silver PRS-300 and here's what I've noticed so far:

When reading outside in the bright sun, the silver reflects back more light. It's nothing to worry about; you'll just notice a glare if the sun hits the casing at the right angle because of the reflective nature of silver.

The dark colors show more wear if they are scratched because the color underneath the paint is silver. My 600 got a few scratches on the back from setting it down on the table without a cover, and they're very noticeable. The black also shows fingerprints and dirt more than the silver.

Filark is also very right about the silver being similar in color to the background of the page, making the border blend in nicely.

After using both, I'd prefer the silver over the black . . . but the blue 300 might be nice too, if only they had it for the 600s.

Filark and the-ebook-reader,

thank you for sharing your thoughts now that silver seems to be a good color too, it's now even even more complicated for me.:/ how about red? does it bring any strains to the eyes for reading during a long period of time?

keep votes and thoughts coming guys

I find that once you begin reading a book you no longer notice the color of the device.

I've used a Silver 505 and a Blue 505 and currently use a Black 600. I have always preferred darker colors

I voted red. I currently have a silver 505 that I love very much, but I've been eying the red 600's ever since they came out. I'm sure I'll eventually be the proud owner of a red 600, unless something else catches my eye!

I bought the black. I'm not a red kind of person, and I admit to being prejudiced against anything silver. I associate it with cheap components. Sorry if I offend the silver owners. I'm just showing my age. I have seen too many silver painted black plastic radio/tape player/remote control etc., with the silver paint worn off the corners, to bring myself to buy a silver device. I'm not attacking the silver Sony eReaders - just explaining my bias.

black matches with all my other devices (thinkpad and phone) so it's a natural choice. i also thought that the black reader is the most elegant. silver might be ok, but red is way to flashy for my tastes.

I wanted a red one, but silver was the only color available. It also seems like it is less distracting than another color.

I love my red one. Like the others have said, I don't really notice the color while I'm reading...

...but when I first open it, it makes me grin to see such a beautiful color.

...and I love showing it off!

Red? Not in the U.K., you only get to choose between black and silver.

I chose black after seeing both of them in the flesh in the Sony Centre. Black definatly was the most sophisticated looking of the two (more understated and classic looking styling), and black is supposed to go with anything.

Can't give an opinion on the the red one as am only able to see pictures of it on the web.

One thing to note, if you are going to use them in a public place, e.g. park, beach, etc, then the red will definatly get more notice out of the three colour choices. This could lead to unwanted attention from some unscrupulous people.

I'm not sure about red attracting more unwanted attention- they first have to know what's that thing in your hands and there are always covers. (Also, I wouldn't get out with my PRS-600 without a cover.)

Anyway, I choose the red- a bit of life! I love silver but I can't have everything in silver or white. Also, it goes well with the iPod Shuffle in red

Silver does look good, but can catch the light and shine in your eye!

I went with black because it matches most of my other portable items (calculator, ipod touch in it's case, binder, etc.). In addition, I just found black to have a more professional look.

As a side note, I often read while riding the metro and it's certainly attracted a bit of attention. Most of the attention wasn't necessarily bad though, it was just people saying how much they liked the way it looked and wondering where I purchased it.
