Heyo from Eastern NC!
I'm fairly new to the world of ebooks and their readers but I've decided that this Christmas I'll combine my "woo fun!" savings with whatever I get gift-wise with purchase myself a Kindle 2. As such I figured I'd be fairly well off poking around and seeing what all the fuss is about, so I've joined your comfortable looking forum in hopes of learning, meeting people, and contributing some of my own information.
I'm 18 and am currently a student (no surprise there) at my local community college and am studying to enter the professional workforce as a chemical engineer. I've been home/self-schooled since I left 'normal' school at 15 and have been busy at the community college since 16. I initially spent several semesters studying the more 'fun' (i.e. technical) sides of computers and the networks that exist between them. For all intents and purposes, I've got all the know-how to get my A+ certification (which doesn't mean all that much) as well as the know-how to get a CCNA (cisco certified networking associate) certification, I just haven't ponied up the cash to take the tests. Why? Simply because last year I decided that I wasn't all that interested in working on computers and networks for the rest of my life, and I discovered that I am really good at chemistry and have excellent lab technique. So aside from that serious stuff I like canoeing and stomping around in the woods - especially with good 'ol map and compass navigation, thought I'm not that good at reading the night sky. It certainly helps that I live 'in the sticks' though - lots of fairly undisturbed woods and streams around. I also enjoy putting my computery knowledge to work for family and friends who need it, and of course I love reading - this afternoon I finished reading The Hunt for Red October for the nth time. Anywho, I've spent much of the afternoon reading about and watching various reviews of the Kindle 2 and am rather pleased with my decision and simply can not wait to order one and start e-reading! I'm excited to start reading over threads absorbing as much as possible so that when the UPS man arrives I'll be prepared. |

Welcome Aeroraptor!
Don't forget to visit the e-books sections here. All free, all well formatted (better than any other free site). Download a few, try them, and if you don't like any of them then delete them (nothing lost bar a small amount of time). I've tried several books from here and found some great stuff that I would never have seen any other way. |

Thanks for the welcomes!
As per buying used, I have considered it - and I may - but $260 isn't all that bad and I really enjoy getting new tech stuff. |
