Greetings to all.

Hi everyone. I just 'discovered' MobileRead.

My name is Gary. I am a retired sociology professor and have been an avid reader all my life. I have been reading online for many years -- mostly academic articles but now a lot of ebooks. I have been using B&N reader on my laptop and more recently on my Blackberry. I just bought an Aluratek Libre pocket reader.

I'm catching up on some classic fiction and nonfiction like Jane Austen and Charles Darwin. My favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut. I've purchased a few novels from Barnes and Noble ebooks. I think we're on the cusp of e-reading in college courses. I do some part time teaching over the internet and use digital articles and research exclusively. It takes a little getting used to by students who are so used to textbooks. The future is here.

I'd be interested in what you are reading, and I have some learning to do on formats, sharing conventions, and the like. Your suggestions are most welcome.

Happy holidays and good reading.

Gary

Welcome to MobileRead, Gary.

You'll find lots of interesting people here, and lots of books to download as well. Formatted by our own members, making them a pleasure to read.

For myself, I read the likes of Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, Joseph Wambaugh, Ray Bradbury, Heinlein, the list goes on and on. I don't care for Fantasy, Romance or True life novels.

One great thing about this board........I've been introduced to many author I 've never read before.....thru suggestion, book uploads, and rave reviews.

Enjoy and don't hesitate to jump in on threads that interest you.

Welcome, socprof. I actually have Slaughterhouse Five on my reading list. My favorites are Ayn Rand and Dostoyevsky. I also love popular nonfiction (e.g. The Family, SuperFreakonomics, The Caged Virgin, etc.). Check out our book club and the Reading Recommendations forum.
