The DR800 is not an iLiad, they are different devices. You will probably have better luck posting in the iRex Digital Reader forum on here, not the iLiad forum.

your friend has probably formatted the mini SD card using Windows Vista?
Then he might have formatted it to NTFS, which is not supported by the DR800.
What does it say on the display of the device? No SD card found?
