Can anybody do this?

It is a long time not being here. After using the DR, it is really good and useful for my research. I get a problem of the color of words displayed on the screen. Has anybody noticed the color of the words displayed on the screen is a little light? If you make notes on the screen and fresh the screen, the color of your notes is more deeper. I mean more black.

So is there any way to increase the contrast of the screen to make the color of words on the screen more black? Thanks

Hi Yingwu,

I think this is related to the way the screen is updated when scribbling and when doing a full-screen update. They have to make a choice between quick and good. The quick leads to lighter 'black'.
I do not know if the scribbles/annotations get lighter if the DR gets older? Do you think that they are lighter then when you bought the DR?

I have not seen a way to increase the contrast in the published code. Showing the menu, normally leads to a full screen refresh, but having to do that often is very annoying :-(

If you see this with Xournal, I could add a 'refresh-button'.

Marcel.

Hi Mackx, thanks. I have not seen the color of the words or scribbles becomes lighter than before. But you know, the background color of the screen is not purely white and the words displayed on the screen is not purely black (a little gray), so the contrast is not so good. This is bad (:

Yes, and the background gets more and more grey as you keep on scribbling. I often find myself refreshing the screen by popping the menu up and down so my eyes don't get so tired. It's annoying, but it's just the current state of the technology as far as I have understood.

I am wondering whether the plastic logic can provide better display quality. It says they use their own e-ink technology.

Exactly. It's a partial screen refresh (not as nice, but faster) vs a full screen refresh (better contrast and reduces ghosting, but slower).

As far as I know it's the same eInk technology. The manufacturing of the screen is different because they are using a plastic substrate instead of a glass one. But I believe the behavior of the eInk particles and the nature of how refreshes will be performed should be the same.

Unless Plastic Logic is not using EInk Corp technology, which would be news to me.

Plastic Logic do indeed use eInk screen technology - it says so on their web site.

They are using eInk screen technology, but it's their own product, not EInk Corp. According to their website, they've been developing the technology for 10 years.

The Sony 600 supports stylus notes. Has anyone seen that or a similar sony device show the same fading effect as you continue to write on a page without a refresh?

An eInk device's screen is made up of several different layers. One of which is the actual eInk. The website doesn't give a lot of details from what I could see, but it sounds like they are talking about the plastic substrate and the technology to manufacture the backplane based on that new substrate material is what they have developed. Plastic Logic's new flexible backplane is then combined with a frontplane (such as the eInk that EInk Corp develops) to create a display.
