Is it me?

Please don't think that I joined this forum to moan, as that's not the case, but I do wish that I'd known about this resource before my problems began.

My PRS300 was a gift and I had no problem authorizing the reader library and installing the Aobe reader. The books purchased read fine but my problems began when trying to read files bought in pdf and other compatible formats which were transferred from various discs. Sony support suggested various options including doing a "workaround" consisting of dragging and dropping files from the disc directly into the "book" file on the reader. This appeared to cause a loop with the reader unresponsive to the on/off control. A hard reset was then advised and I redid the whole authorizing procedure once more. Nothing worked however and I swapped the machine.
The second machine did work but all files, apart from those purchased, when transferred from the Reader Library or Adobe Reader, did not maintain font size, and even though the zoom function worked the print was minuscule. I again consulted Sony support. I un-installed the Reader Library and Adobe Reader reinstalled but now found that the reader library wouldn't open. After being advised by support to clear all temp files and finding the same result the previous workaround was suggested and again the reader went into a loop as before.
Now while the support people were trying their best to help, I was continually told (by four different people) that they had never heard of such a thing and they would have to consult. Cost me a fortune and two weeks in time and in the end I returned the reader. The pity of it is, I loved the thing and would have wished to keep it. Sorry for the long story but perhaps someone here has the solution. I would love to buy another at a future date.

PDF files can be a problem on any reader, and often the fonts are messed up. Sounds like you had some problems on the technical side of things. Wait a few years and readers will become easier to use.....

For folks that are not technology savvy, I always recommend the Kindle... but in your case it would have been even worse because of PDF issues.

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately for me I'm old and could pop off any time so waiting is not an answer. Pity about the device though as I did like it.

As Bremen Cole stated, the PDF issue will occur with any reader you get. If this is the only issue you are having, you could try adjusting the pdf before sending it to the reader.

Shame about the trouble you have with the reader.

Have a look at the subforum Calibre - maybe that is an option for you, convert the files that trouble you. Now, I don't know if it is really possible, but worth a try.

Or with a bit of luck, someone who knows more about the technical side helps you further.

I hope you meant to include a "Happy Face" in that!

Any one of us can go at any time. I'm an old man, too, by Jimminy, but I'm going to go out fighting and with all my ebook Readers (ebookieuses to you!) buried with me in my casket - along with a fully-charged MIGHTY BRIGHT Light.

So, to conclude: I could die right now, like some idiot out of a happy Lovecraft story, and not finish my senten

Any one of us could pop off: The Mobile member over on page 310 - you know, the hairy ape-looking guy twenty paragraphs down - could die in a horrible car accident, his suffering immense.

Sadly, the amount of room available dictates that being buried with any electronic device is out of the question for me, as I intend to be buried with all five of my bikes piled on my chest. This is not due to any religious preference, but entirely due to my determination not to allow any of my cycling friends to profit by my demise.
That said, I can feel in my water that you are certainly morally superior to myself, and am certain that you could not bear the thought of all your readers going to waste while this decrepit Scotsman is without a single machine. This being so I'm going to ensure that you have my home address at the earliest opportunity.
