Greetings

I'm new to e-reading--have never done so before--never downloaded a book, nada. Waited a year debating whether to buy a Kindle and was a day away from ordering a Kindle 2 when B&N announced the nook. As soon as I saw the specs my mind was made up and I pre-ordered within days of the announcement.

I am looking forward to learning all I can about e-readers, e-books, and dealing with the various formatting issues discussed here, particularly since I am a techno-phobe and will be terrified the first time I download something that isn't from B&N's site. I'm also still researching other readers, just in case the Spring Design lawsuit results in a halt to shipping (which seems doubtful, but I'm a worrier).

Very glad this forum is here. My teenager hates that I am jumping on the e-reader bandwagon and is convinced this will be the death of books and libraries. But I just can't help it--we have no room for all the books I buy, and I very much need a reader with adjustable font sizes so that I can read with or without my reading glasses, etc.

Looking forward to sharing ideas here.

Welcome to mobileread!

The nook should be able to read ePubs - both non-DRM, Adobe DRM and the new B&N DRM ones. So you will have a large choice of ebook stores - everyone except Amazon is now selling ePubs.

We'll all be very interested to hear about your experiences with the nook.

Thanks so much for the nice welcome. I notice you have a Bookeen Gen--a friend of mine has one and is very pleased with it. Honestly, until I heard about it from her and then happened upon this forum, I had no idea there were so many e-readers out there. Will be interesting to see how this whole area plays out in the coming months and years.

And I will absolutely update about the nook as soon as mine comes in. I should be in the first bunch (shipping on 11/30).

Hi Copynik and welcome to MobileRead. Be sure and let us know how you like your new toy when I arrives.

And, BTW, eBooks are not the end of libraries. In fact you can borrow eBooks from many libraries at no cost.

Thank you again for all the nice welcomes! I can't wait to get the nook into my hands and will certainly post back about what I think of it.

I looked on my town library's website and did not see a thing about them carrying e-books. Maybe I'll call to ask. It's a fairly large, county-wide library system, so you'd think they'd would offer it.
