Specifying Zoom Fonts
After many years one feature I've never been able to use the way I would like is the text zoom. I think this would be really cool If I could make it work the way I want.
I use eBook Publisher to create my imps, usually from imported HTML files. I like this method as it gives me the best control over margins, justification and font choices. I really don't much like most of the fonts, the serif fonts are hard to read and the monospaced are, well, monospaced. The sans-serif are much too big for my taste. Typically, I do everything with smallfont, but it doesn't zoom. Small font can be really small for some reading conditions. I would really like to build a file where the smaller font is smallfont and the zoomed font is one of the others I can specify. I am guessing this simply isn't possible, but I thought I would check! Thanks all. |

I believe you are correct. There is no way to do what you want. The font sets are built in and the method of zooming is to zoom the current font set as specified by the file itself and as you say smallfont has only one size as it is intended not to zoom while everything else does since it purpose is for headers and footers. Wow, your eyes are good if you enjoy reading with that small font. In a few years that is unlikely to be the case.

I also use the smallest of the small fonts. I find it`s easier on my eyes then the larger ones.

yeah
Yeah it can been annoying on some books the difference between smaller and larger font is barely noticable. I don't believe there is a way to change it on this device though, at least not one that I have found!

By the way, the current eBook Publisher default font is a serif font 'small' whereas the previous default, that Book Designer usually produces, is a serif font 'x-small'. To select which font to use in a .imp, you must do so BEFORE creating the .imp ebook within its .html code. How to change these fonts is explained in the eBook Publisher wiki here under Best Conversion Practices. There is a way to have Book Designer produce the ebooks using the one size larger serif font 'small' and is in the Book Designer wiki here. Last edited by nrapallo; 11-20-2009 at 12:24 PM. Thanks for the info and feedback. I sure hope my eyes last a while longer.
I agree that at least for me the smallfont is easiest to read, because it is such a clean font. After posting I made my latest imp using the monospace font. It just isn't quite the same although it has a clean look to it. It doesn't work well with the left&right justified format I like to use. Thanks again. EB1150 for ever! (Got to compare one to a kindle the other day finally and didn't see any reason to switch) Last edited by DropDeadFred; 11-20-2009 at 03:45 PM. |
